perfect weekend in Philly?

Well, as you can imagine, JHS, the hotel’s website said it was right in the middle of everything. Never believe a website, I guess, but I’m sure it will be fine.

“Let’s all have a Tastykake
and have a load of fun!
Tastykake is all the good things,
All the good things wrapped up in one.”

The jingle from when I was a kid in the 70’s just came back to me.

It’s amazing, the useless junk you sometimes find in the dusty corners of your mind…

Thanks, everyone! We’re leaving tomorrow. Can’t do a fraction of what you’ve suggested, but will have a great time!

Thanks from us as well. We canceled our plans for Saturday (and so if anyone needs 4 tix for a Villanova football game, pm me  ). But we will head down to PA on Sunday; do the campus tour with the grandparents and then go into Philly by train for a little sightseeing and dinner; found an affordable hotel deal for Sunday night; and then visit with our nephew at Lafayette on the return trip on Monday. Luckily, I have the flexibility to not work Monday. Luckily, the weather looks like it might cooperate with this change in plans!

No rain on sunday!!! But kinda chilly…pack your long johns. ;)

^^I love winter temperatures! And qdogpa, looking forward to the bball season. Nothing like Big East basketball  .

No doubt, but we are ranked 8th preseason in Big East…hopefully we can surprise teams.

Alwaysamom - when my family moved from Philly to the Midwest, we had a friend in the food industry ship us those minute steaks to make cheesesteaks with, as we couldn’t find the meat sliced the right way out here.

2 inches of snow predicted for Philly Saturday.
Lehigh Valley may get 6 inches —crazy!

Pizzagirl, I have often bought those when I’ve been down visiting friends or family. My H and girls always loved them. Whenever we’re back in Jersey, we always stop at our favorite sandwich place that’s been there since I was in 8th grade. And it’s still run by the same family! Still the best cheesesteaks and hoagies I’ve ever had. :)

or you were 50 something and needed a break from kids and the college search!

I am loving all of these suggestions. Even though I live so close to Philly I don’t get there as often as I would like and never know what to do when we do go. We will be there this weekend in this nasty weather too for family weekend. I hope that the forecasters are as wrong as they usually are.

Off to Philly–will report back.

Make sure you pronounce it “wooder” instead of “wahter.” My former East Coast accent has modulated a lot, but I still say wooder, and everyone still laughs :-)

And the football team is the Iggles.

BethieVt- looking forward to your Philly weekend report, luckily you only got 1.5 inches of snow there, perhaps more at Haverford. A bit chilly, ay?

15 miles N of city, we got an easy 5 inches…roads were treacherous, accidents all over

Well, I got back last night. Philly was cold and blustery on Saturday and there was some snow, but very little accumulated. The niece we visited at Swarthmore had never seen snow before and was really feeling the cold.

It turned out that I was really interested in what was going on in the hotel with my H’s conference and wanted to attend sessions and have meals there. We did have time on Sunday for a few hours at the amazing Museum of Art before we headed to the airport. I was hoping for at least a cheesesteak at the airport, but our terminal was under construction and had few dining options.

But I did have a wonderful weekend and would love to visit the city again, so I’ll keep all of your great suggestions on file for another time.

Great update- glad you had fun!

Cheesesteak at airport is a no-no. ;). You may has well went to the supermarket and gotten a steak-um.
