<p>My daughter approached it similarly to Skwidjymom’s D. Her voice teacher at the time also performed regionally and worked with her on the singing aspects of the audition, including acting the song. We found a local actor, who also coached, who worked with my daughter on monologues. He also had her speak her songs and worked with her on acting them as if they were a monologue. </p>
<p>If the performance teachers your student is currently working with do not fit what you are looking for and you are having difficulty getting local suggestions, check whether there is a performing arts/theater alliance or some such organization in your area. Often, such an organization can offer suggestions from among its members. Also, check with colleges in your area that have theater and vocal performing programs. Often the faculty at college programs are also involved with outside private teaching or there may be graduates who are performing locally and who desire to supplement their income by offering private coaching.</p>
