However, 2.7 million sharks (some from vulnerable or endangered species) are killed each year to get squalene for cosmetics purposes, according to https://www.sharkallies.com/shark-free-products/cosmetics-what-is-squalene , so if you are concerned about shark populations, you may want to check that any cosmetics you use are free of squalene or squalane, or get it only from plant sources.
