<p>Reading directions is an underrated, and very important skill. </p>
<p>Counselor is wrong. There may be supplements on the Common App or other apps that ask you why you want to attend. Stay on topic, don’t get distracted and focus on what your essay is about. </p>

<p>I was talking to a counselor just the other day and he said that only some schools may read the personal statement but most schools read them when deciding who to give their scholarships to, so I would right a good one even if you think you school is not going to read it.</p>
