Hey guys, I’m just done with the application for PSE and am wondering how many ppl also applied? Is there anybody who can give me a deeper insight into this program, since therez only a very general description on Yale’s website? Is it a challenging program which requires a lot of work, like the Directed Studies? How’s the summer research project like?
Thanks=)

Yeah, I applied as well. If I get accepted, I’m not too sure I’ll stick with it. I just want to shop it and see what it’s like, if I get in. I’m really not too interested in ALL science, so the class might end up being a little boring. The money for summer research is definitely a plus, but since there’s other means of getting research funded, I might end up not sticking with it. We’ll see…

My son also applied. Based on conversations he had with current/past PSE students, he’s enthusiastic. Here’s a link to a previous thread on PSE: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/634783-perspectives-science.html?highlight=Perspectives+Science

DS was in this class before. Even though he did not hate it, he was not particularly enthusiastic about it either. According to him, only some of the lectures are interesting (to him), but he did not enjoy most of the discussion sessions – He said sometimes none of the students have enough background knowledge (often times including the professor who was there to facilitate the discussion) to engage in a meaningful discussion on the topic, as sometimes the topic may be very specialized. The end-of-the-year paper is the only work that is time-consuming. He did not take the stipend for the summer research for various reasons. (It seems the course name is changed. Back then, it was called Perspectives on Science, without Engineering.)

I applied, it sounds cool. not really sure though cause yeah, the description was pretty general.
