Pet peeves about spouses

My thermostat is set at 74 right now. He can deal with it. I’m also wearing a thermal top and a sweatshirt. In the summer I won’t let it get below 72. What can I say: I have little body fat. But that more than makes up for the fact that he went on the DVR yesterday and deleted the shows he doesn’t need. Which were, of course, all the shows I wanted to watch.

^^^^^Ouch!

Another pet peeve that I just remembered. H doesn’t turn down thermostat at night if he is the last one up.

DH gets sentimental about things that nobody else is sentimental about, and then he won’t get rid of those items. When I’ve asked my adult sons to go through their old rooms to decide what they want and what they want to get rid of, I have to make sure DH isn’t around because he would “rescue” most of the things they want to get rid of.

His music collection is also extreme. He has some of the same music in albums, cassettes, CDs, on his Ipod, downloaded on iTunes, and on a flash drive. How many different formats does he need it on? And he won’t consider eliminating any of the duplicates.

I wish she was more glass half full than glass half empty.

We have thermostat issues in our home, too.

I’ve lived my whole life in the southern part of the US… 40+ years in southern Calif…the rest in Alabama. I’m used to mild climates. I had a cheap Italian father who practically kept a lockbox on the thermostat (not really, but we knew better than to touch it!). My mom’s mantra was: Put on a sweatshirt on if you’re cold. OK!!!

H grew up near Chicago, so he’s used to flipping heat or AC on at a moment’s notice. BUT…he has lived in mild climates for over 35 years! He’ll flip on the heat rather than actually wearing some clothes!..and socks/slippers!

In the summer, our home is an icebox. Even when a hot day turns into a cool night and all he’d need to do is OPEN A WINDOW, he prefers the ease of a thermostat. We have huge electric bills. Ouch!

I can’t help but be annoyed when he turns the heat up to 75+ while wearing his boxers and some ratty thin Tshirt…while barefoot. #PutaSweatshirtONifYou’reCold!

My husband has been known to turn the heat on in the morning when it’s chilly then the air conditioning during the day then the heat back on at night. drives me crazy

@emilybee

Get an automatic programmable thermostat. That way no one needs to remember to turn it up…or down

Get a wi-fi programmable thermostat so you can “fix” it from your phone when someone messes with it

^yup. I can adjust any of the thermostats from my phone when in bed. And you can program it to be set to any temperature at any time of any day. Love it. And it knows when I am home so turns on to the programmed temp. No spouse issue involved

My husband pretends he doesn’t know how to use the thermostats! He will complain that it is a blizzard in the house, yet never will adjust the temperature; he waits for me to do it.

My pet peeve, although he doesn’t have control, is the snoring. He only snores when on his back or side, so I am forever waking him during the night to turn over. While he swears he doesn’t remember, he will respond that he is already on his stomach, which he isn’t, or he says he will turn and doesn’t. This goes on multiple times a night as I am a very light sleeper. I have tried ear plugs, but can still hear the snoring through those. In his defense, I also wake of the dogs if they are snoring during the night  The male dogs likes to bit his nails, which becomes an immediate removal from the bed!!

Waiting in a blizzard for someone named @snowball is very apropos.

My gripe with my DH is that he takes on way too much and then gets overloaded with stuff on his plate. I want him to do the stuff I put on his honey-do list!

Mine is programmable, but since I don’t work and I’m in and out all day at different times, for different lengths of times, I just have to manually do it anyway.

At first I thought you were talking about your husband… lol

Wifi thermostats don’t work like that, @emilybee. They learn your patterns and know when you are home so will adjust to your preferences when you are there. Or you can program it or adjust it on your phone. Very easy.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into it.

Where can I get one of those programmable husbands?

@emilybee read this: https://nest.com/support/article/Home-Away-Assist-has-replaced-the-Nest-Thermostat-s-Auto-Away-setting. It will learn when you come and go and will turn on when you come home. Or you can hit the app when you are on your way home and the house will be toasty warm when you arrive. Heck, you can crank it up to 80 on your phone when you are heading home and turn it down to 71 or whatever when you get home. Or the thermostat will know you are home and reset itself. Not all wifi thermostats are learning thermostats and not all will learn your habits but this one does. It may even know when you are headed home.

Thx. Bookmarked.
