Phone tracker for the drive home for Thanksgiving

I don’t have to track my son. He flew in from Boston yesterday. He is out of school, working and living independently.
We exchanged texts yesterday. S: 1:18 pm At the airport, S: 1:19 pm Through security, just waiting to board, Me: Cool story. Going for a run, S: 4:33 Just landed… early Me: 4:52 Parked S: 4:54 Im by belt b2 Me: 4:54 OK, and we met at the terminal door by baggage claim. Tracking is good! Again, if your D has no problem with it, I see it as using technology to make life better. I wonder if I can convince my son to wear an ankle bracelet.

FYI The police can track a cell phone if requested. So if your child didn’t show up on time, or you have a logical reason why you think they are in danger, theoretically you can call the police and give them the cell phone number and they can do a “wellness check.” You do not want to know how I know this!

Wonder what happened to the OPs kids. They have already completed their drive home!

The first time I drove a group,of friends to a party, unbeknown to me my mother was following me the whole way. It turned out that several parents were just as nervous. I was the first in my crowd to have a license. The parents were relieved to know about my mom following. Fortunately, I didn’t know about this for a decade.

So I came by this form of anxiety naturally. I didn’t worry when my HS son went to a friends house, and they ended up at a movie or someplace else, but one mom did. She wanted her son to check in with each change of plan.

There are several apps that allow tracking, and obviously many people use them. For those who,do track a loved one, they will have to learn to handle that a 10 minute stop can mean a bathroom break. They shouldn’t be checking constantly. We all have to,learn to handle our anxieties.

I really have to wonder how much these tracker apps drain the battery on phones. My phone’s battery is horrendous and a 3 hour drive with apps running could absolutely drain it to zero. That would seem to defeat the purpose.

@romanigypsyeyes

I have a car charger…and when I’m driving, my phone is always plugged into it, all of my kids have them too…and so does my husband. No drained batteries on the phones here!

I have a car charger too. The battery drains more quickly than it can charge. It does prolong it though.

@thumper1, I didn’t track her. She texted me along the way and arrived just as scheduled. Thanks for asking!
