Yes but I think somewhere I saw an archived NY times or other article dated from the 20’s on the subject but I am definitely lacking supporting documentation, just something I remember. I supposed the daily beast is pulling on some reference. From what I remember reading it seemed the look and definitive style we call preppy originated as a conscience style created in the seven sisters and disseminating out from there going from college to preparatory schools and not vice versa. Of course it wasn’t called preppy until later.
I have not done real research on the subject so anything I might have said or say should be prefixed with something like “I remember reading some where” or “I think I remember reading somewhere” and “I could be mistaken”
. It would make sense to me since woman tend (shaky stereotyping ground here) to be more style conscious then men and the original ivy league look would be something more akin to what Emerson would wear as in a suit. I just remember because i thought it was so interesting to think that the style we associate with moneyed men started with rebellious woman. Yes I really sounded preachy in the original post . Of course the ivy league itself goes back to a NY papers post about college sports, I am pretty sure I read that somewhere.
