Pickleball

We finally found and registered for a series of 6 pickleball classes, and then my DH broke his arm! Ugh

Oh my gosh… so sorry to hear about your husband’s broken arm. Best wishes as you deal with the treatment and healing.

I play pb with a variety of players and levels. The other day I was able to sub in a group that is a little better than me (sometimes lots better). I mentioned how much I appreciate the opportunity, learn lots. One of them said, “You are doing good. You are better than when we first played with you last year.” That cheered me. Then she added, “LOTS better”… which made me feel good and also a little bad about last year.

I’m sorry about your H’s broken arm, but are you going to do the classes? It’s great fun.

I had an interesting conversation with one of my PB players the other day. She was done playing, but hanging around after just to talk. She said that’s the main reason she comes to PB, to be social, pickleball is secondary. (She is actually one of the best players, and does play hard when she’s playing)
I was actually glad she said that, because it reminded me to stop and enjoy the people a little more. I go and I tend to focus on playing, not wanting to take many breaks/talk/wait for other people to stop talking, etc. I’ve been playing with many of these people for 4 years now - they really are my friends.

Yes, meeting new friends in pickleball is a wonderful perk! Just this week I was laughing with other retired ladies, wondering if my retired life would have been too dreary without them.

Yesterday I attended a helpful coached-play event (outside, with a volunteer coach from the local nonprofit… so yay, free). The coach said she’d only work on one thing, “not walking through the shots” (ie stop before hitting, since the in motion shots are often bad). Well it turns out that I needed that - didn’t realize how much I am in motion when I hit. Of course often it can’t be avoided, since I am slow getting to the ball. But it’s a good thing to work on.

Anybody have some other good tips to share?
