Plates

Trader Joe’s.

does anybody else have the really, really old white and green correll? over the years we somehow ended up with lots of it, having received pieces from both sides of the family (they didn’t want it anymore either). i, too, want something new but am undecided about what to get to replace it. this thread is giving me some good ideas.

finally went through the big box of china which was sitting in the basement storage room (and had been moved from house to house with us ) and decided it was pointless to continue to store the many cups and saucers. i got rid of them. we are using the bowls everyday now and the plates and serving pieces come out for holidays.

alas, all of our late 70s wedding dishes are also Brown. As was my lipstick, if I recall, so hilariously memorialized by Tom Wolfe in Bonfire…it was an EARTHY era…no fussy flowers or china for us.
High thee to Seagrove, NC…take a day or two. Buy a whole set from your top potter…of the 90 plus potters throwing there, some 3rd generation artisans…or do the chic thing and buy 8 sets of completely unique place settings from 8 different artists there. The originials are in the Smithsonian…worth the trip indeed.

Ooooh, I take at least one trip through NC every summer (sans spouse) en route to my folks in GA…I already hit the fabric outlets along the way, now I’ll add dishes to the list! :)

Just noticed yesterday - only one little cup left from the green & white corell. It had a good run…

Funny story - lost the first bowl (c-1982) b/c I got into a heated “discussion” about Corell being unbreakable. I thought it was & attempted to prove it to husband (then not even a bf yet) by yanking it out of the cupboard & dropping it on the floor. Guess who won that argument! (I could post that story in the “Dumb Things I Did” thread!). - - He fell in love w/ me anyway!

So… does Corell qualify as one of the “Hallmarks of Our Generation”?

mathmom, I am at Trader Joe’s at least once a week, and I have never seen glasses on sale, or anything else besided food. Which Trader Joe’s carries them?
