My go-to at Applebee’s is the cheesy pasta with chicken tenders. I forget exactly what that’s called – something like “Three-Cheese Cavatappi with Honey Chicken Tenders”. I get a side of ranch and dip/eat the tenders separately. That’s pretty decent.
Back when I was doing plays, we would occasionally cap off a performance with a trip to Applebee’s for half-price apps. Back then you could get their rather large nacho platter with all the usual toppings, chicken or beef, for like $6. I would just eat the whole thing, and that comprised my meal. It came on a wide, rectangular plate.
IT’s funny because I’m pretty indifferent on Chipotle, but it’s a place I seek out knowing I can get a safe meal (allergies). We’ve had a number of local places open that have had the same concept as Chipotle and I always give the places a try as I think local will be better. Unfortunately, they haven’t been better than Chipotle, so I guess Chipotle is getting it right.
While there is absolutely nothing I can eat at McDonald’s, I get a major craving about once a year or so for a Big Mac and Shamrock Shake. When I could still eat that stuff it was my post-birth request meal as I avoided it my entire pregnancy despite intense cravings. They were closed as it was after midnight and I got a sad brown bag turkey sandwich on white bread with an apple from the hospital cafeteria and burst into tears.
One chain I really miss and my kids will go out of their way for when we’re traveling in the Midwest is Steak and Shake.
I love chipotle because it is healthy and delicious! I also have food allergies, so always get a salad, I have never tried burritos, quesadillas etc, because I cannot eat them.
Around here, once the kids are teenagers, half apps is the go to evening activity (following the axe spray phase). By the time they’re 17 or do they are over it.
My hospital was in a food Mecca, but since I never knew what time my baby would be delivered, I’d always pack a bagel with cream cheese and a beer. For #3, my mom showed up right after I had my daughter at 3 am, 31 hours of labor. She forgot my bagel, I was so sad and hungry.
Not to make this an after labor thread, but my turkey sandwich kid was 30+ hours. My next one, we headed to the hospital at 5 pm, so I told my husband to make sure he ordered something to be delivered before it got too late. Turns out my labor was less than 2 hours and we ordered in pizza to have with the midwives. We checked out 12 hours later (got held up getting doctors to sign off) and stopped for lunch at a restaurant on the way home. My kid had his first restaurant outing before he was 24 hours old. My mom, who was waiting at home with my 13 month old, was NOT pleased.
When traveling a long way by car, and need to stop for a quick lunch, I would rather go to a Subway and control exactly what goes on my sandwich than go to a McDonalds/BK, etc place for greasy food.
Cold cuts are one of the worst culprits of sodium and preservatives, less healthy in many ways than a burger. But I will admit I have a weakness for a good italian sub and is one of the first thing I get from a local deli when visiting my parents in Delaware. Outside of that, I favor Jimmy Johns over Subway. Jersey Mike is not bad, but their dressing has too much vinegar and not enough Italian herbs.
I happen to like Jersey Mikes. When I’m traveling, if they are in an airport, that’s my choice. I can choose what I want and don’t want on my sandwiches.
