Please make it stop.... and bring back drivers ed

That is so sad. :frowning: My prayers are with your community. But we all need to remember that it’s not just teens.

For example. My sophomore year, a boy I knew (I’d had several classes with him…I really wasn’t great friends with him, but I knew him, y’know?) was riding his bike around town. Now normally he was reckless on his bike, but from the story I know he was being very careful on this particular day. So he got the “good time to cross” signal and proceeded across the street.

As he was crossing, there was a car waiting to turn into the intersection. A car coming the opposite way blew the light, hit the car waiting to turn. The car waiting to turn spun and hit the boy. He flew off of his bike and landed in such a way that he was instantly brain dead. Two days later his family decided to take him off of life support and he died.

I do agree, though, that a lot of teen drivers aren’t careful enough. Most of my friends and I understand what can happen when you’re not careful with a car (as we saw with the boy I knew), so we’re all pretty cautious drivers. But driving my car to and from school every day, I’ve seen some pretty reckless moves. SOMETHING needs to change, and this coming from a teen driver who hasn’t even had her license for a year yet (november 6th, w00t!).

I’ve only been in one “accident”, if you want to call it that. I was at the local mall and tried to fit into a spot that I thought was wide enough for my car when it wasn’t and dragged my car along the side of the car next to me. Thankfully there was no damage except paint transfer, so the other driver did not collect any of my insurance info or anything. But THAT really shook me up, because the mall cop who handled it wasn’t that nice to me.

Let me tell you, I am a VERY cautious driver. In fact, my friends often complain to me that I drive too slowly. But I would rather go slower than them and get to my destination safely than wind up in a ditch somewhere.

I guess my point is that while I do see a lot of the carelessness you guys are mentioning, there are still some teen drivers that do know what they’re doing and are taking responsibility with that license.

Binx,
I remember the deat of the quarterbacklast year. Also a senseless tragedy. I think your address label idea is brilliant. We should not, we simply cannot forget.

Hisgracefiilsme-
Thanks for the kid words- and for being a careful driver. A scraped car is fixable. I am listening to the news as I type- some teens were involved in an accident- possibly car race- 1 dead, 5 injured. Please, teens, use good judgement.

Wow, that’s so sad. :(

Yeah, we got my car washed and you can barely even see the damage anymore.

Let me say that I do take unnecessary risks sometimes that I probably shouldn’t. I’m not going to pretend that I’m the perfect driver-I’m not even close. But I NEVER run yellow lights, because I always remember Justin.

We’re trying to get our school to do something for him at graduation this year…whether it’s as small as all of us wearing a black ribbon in his memory or as huge as releasing balloons or whatever, we want to do something.
