The SAT could carry you through the door if it’s high. I’d suggest paying for some tutoring to help you get a 1300+. That’d make admissions a lot easier. I’d also aim to bring up your grades a ton. If need be, go the route of doing freshman year at a community college and then transferring in after maintaining a high GPA. That should make it easier
atm my parents are paying like a lot of money for me to take this 14 week course and im aiming for at least a 1300. like rn my grades are looking way better like no D’s and mostly B’s but i doubt that theyll be enough to bring my gpa to more than a 3.3.
I’m assuming you’re a junior, so I think this would be a great time to work on your essay. Sometimes an essay is the difference between acceptance and denial! You may be able to write about your depression and how it affected you and how you overcame it. Here’s the catch, I believe the limit is around 700 words and you can’t make it sound basic because it won’t make you stand out. There are a lot of good resources to help you write your essay, Khan Academy is a go-to for me. You don’t have to write your essay about your depression, but make sure you stand out! Be unique! For my SAT, I studied using Khan academy and I loved it because I could link my collegeboard account to my Khan Academy account and get personalized study guide for the SAT. Also, some people do better on the ACT than the SAT, so consider that as well! Good luck, and remember there are many ways to get to Rutgers!
thank you for this info. yes im a junior and im really worried about what to write my essay on cus i feel like i dont have anything interesting which will stand out to admissions officers. thank u !
@waterisgraett based on what I have read in the forum, it seems like you could have a lot of stuff to write about. My school has a unit where we write the essays in language arts (english) class so we did a lot of “research” on what admissions counselors were looking for. I think that was really helpful. Also, when you go on visits (or virtual visits) ask what they look for in an essay! If you want, you can pm me and I can share my essay with you
@waterisgraett I can only assume that the above posters intentions are good but I’d recommend that you: 1) never post your essay online and 2) you ask a trusted English teacher rather than another HS student to read the essay over for you.
alright thank you!
thank you for this info !
Hey! What Rutgers campus did you apply to? I’m a high school senior as well and I went through the same thing as you.
Also , make sure you work with your school’s guidance dept and a trusted teacher, you can do this but it will take effect and some work but again you can do this.
i havent applied or taken my SAT yet but i want to go to new brunswick SAS for psychology .
