I was really Proud of my D yesterday morning (she is in the US for college) because the first thing she posted on facebook was that she remembers and she included the last line of in Flanders Fields which is “We shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders Fields.” When I talked to her last evening she said it was great because for the past 2 weeks she had been wearing her poppie and many people asked what it was for. She said later in the evening her and some of her friends sat and had their own Multinational remembrance service in their dorm and she taught them a song that she said had been on her mind all day. She learnt it in elementary school but it has stuck with her. It is “I remember the brave men who fought for our country, I remember the brave men who died far away, I remember the brave men who truly loved Canada, and because I remember, I stand and I pray.” Lest we forget. And of course you can change the Canada for any country. They have apparently agreed that next year they will plan something in advance and try to get more people involved.

When my Mom died 2 years ago, we only knew one thing about her final wishes. She wanted to have a grave marker from the VA signifying her service in the Air Force. She was a Nurse, and had been promoted to 1st Lt. while my Dad was still a 2nd Lt. She loved to tell people that she out-ranked him! We buried her with her AF medals. Her grave marker now proudly displays her staus as a Veteran for all to see!

She was so proud to have served her country. All 4 of her brothers were in WWII (at the same time) and she made sure none of her kids forgot what a sacrifice and honor it is to be part of the US Military. Besides my parents, 3 of my 5 brothers have served as well, both Marines & Army.

My prayers & heart are with those serving today, and their families who miss them. Thanks to all the Veterans. Blessings to you on Vereran’s Day, and always.

There was a man holding a donation can at the grocery store yesterday. He was also holding some strange little flowers to hand out, not poppies. “For Korean Veterans” It did not seem legit to me.

^^^

No that seems odd. I think the vets have the poppies around Memorial Day. I always give them money and thank them for their service.

FallGirl, I thought the American memorial day had the Poppie but I am not sure either, Perhaps she was being asked why now instead of Memorial day…

Yes, the poppies/donation thing is Memorial Day. My grandparents always volunteered for that. Maybe the American Legion runs it.

This volunteer and strange flowers set off my scam radar.
