Please stop me before

I should not be posting on this thread - I have one SPCA shelter dog, one kill shelter dog and my newest was rescued from a puppy mill where she had been a breeder. I flunked transport which is why she is with us now.

I used to adopt the seniors. Last two were. Right now my heart hurts so much from losing them. Somehow I kid myself into thinking that a puppy would last longer. I also wondered if the remaining dog would adjust with a younger dog better?

Regardless I’ve talked myself off the ledge for now and decided to wait. thanks for the Debate. All parties presented a viable agrument.

Amen and pass the keys!!! DH and I have had dogs all our married lives (and before). I have made it known when this one crosses Rainbow Bridge, I would like a long break from pets … perhaps a permanent break. I hope I can sell that to DH.

I lived once upon a time in a town where the train station was adjacent to the city pound. Every time I put my kids on the train to go visit their dad (leaving me alone), I had to go right be the pound as I was leaving. And this happened several times. Needless to say, by the time we moved away, our family was quite a bit larger than it was to start with . . .

Awesome to hear they’re with a rescue group! I do like the fostering idea. :)

From what I’ve heard, it’s better to get a male and a female. Some dogs have “issues” with other dogs of the same gender, after they hit puberty. (And with some dogs it doesn’t matter at all.)

My DH and I can’t travel together because of the pets. Cat is insulin resistant diabetic who needs frequent vet care and dog has a delicate stomach which makes boarding unappealing. (The aftermath of boarding wouldn’t be worth even the best of vacations.) I feel like I have toddlers again. I’m already wondering how we will be able to attend DD’s college graduation in 3 years.

Love the pets, but will also love to be able to travel at will again some day.

^ hire an experienced pet sitter. I also cannot board my dogs. Big one gets too anxious and we also have problems after we bring her home, and my middle dog bites if anyone tries to touch her when (or where) she doesn’t want to be touched.

Sunnie, good, wait until after your move.
