Plebe Parents Weekend 2009

Hotels - depends what you want. If you want to walk onto the yard, we like the Loews. If you want to stay farther out and take the shuttle bus. The Hampton at BWI gives discounts to midshipmen families. It is about 30 minutes. There are a lot of options, those are just two that we have used.

As far as reservations. We did not book until IDay and had no trouble getting a place. You received the official date of PPW with some of the mailings prior to IDay.

For the Class of 2010, our Iday was June 28th and PPW was August 11-13.

http://www.usna.edu/AcDean/calendars/anchordates090-122.pdf

If you look at the Anchor Dates calendar it shows that Plebe Summer will be 50 days. That puts it ending on around August 20th.

Intersession for the current midshipmen ends on August 21st - Classes start on the 24th. Generally there is about one week between PPW and the start of Classes. That week is still considered Plebe summer - usually the monday is a small sea trials (not open to parents so don’t think about hanging around to catch a glimpse of Plebe summer training.) They will get their computers, move into the academic rooms etc. Classes do start later this year due to the date of the Army Navy game being a week later, so finals had to be pushed back.

Anything is possible and USNA is known for changing dates so be patient. If you try to out guess the Academy it could lead to you spending additional money.
