PNW college tours for HS junior - CA resident, ~$45K, humanities major

If the OP’s daughter has a broad interest in the humanities, the absence of a classics program at Humboldt might be a concern.

I was going to say UBC in Vancouver. We were just there in November on an unrelated trip, was so lovely and they have every major imaginable.

We’ve just returned from our spring break trip and I did an extensive write-up for the “Colleges that went up or down” thread. We visited the schools on my initial list and also added University of Oregon because D’s friend wanted to see that one.

We learned that D hates small towns (so no Whitman), and probably wouldn’t choose a small LAC. We also really appreciated the quick and easy flights between the Bay Area and Seattle/Portland, so it seems the ease of getting to school will be important to D26 (again, no Whitman). Also, we were tricked by the weather for the Oregon schools, which seemed fantastic under rare sunny skies. Tried very hard to convey to D that they will feel different under months of gray skies.

Anyway, she is seriously considering OSU and UO (depending on final cost). After realizing that she wants more of a city feel, I reconsidered Seattle U and U of Portland for her, but I still think they’ll be too conservative for her.

A friend of mine taught in the classics department at U Vic. By all accounts it’s a great school and more undergrad-focused than some of the major research institutions like Toronto.
