Polygamists in San Angelo?

<p>I heard yesterday that they’re going to start DNA testing but its hard because some of the kids don’t know who their bio dads are (if they come out of hiding, that is!!) because wives and children get “reassigned” if they’re out of favor with the Prophet. I called seven bookstores (the big type) and the library has a waiting list of 8 for “Escape” before I found a copy. Only read a hundred pages but can’t put it down. Amazing. She only got out 5 years ago. I was thinking about the inbreeding in these compounds, too. My father used to tease my mother about her Colonial roots in NY and how they all married each other, but this takes the cake!</p>

<p>I was just wondering yesterday how these men supported these families and whether they filed tax returns. If they did, did they claim the children? If they did, those children must have social security numbers. I assume they had birth certificates. Did no one question the age of the mothers? Seems to me they either fell through some very big cracks, or someone is not doing their job.</p>

<p>Apparently they have birth certificates but they aren’t ?? dated or something so you can’t tell how old the kids are. Those were the documents the authorities found in the safe on the ranch. Yesterday I heard on the radio that the government gave them 405K to set up a waste treatment plant when they were just setting up in San Angelo. Not sure what that’s all about.</p>

<p>I don’t know about the families in this compound, but in many polygamous households, government assistance is the big source of income to support the family. You are talking about a lot of single mothers with lots of kids…a real goldmine.</p>

<p>How could they turn a blind eye to that? It really is over the top. Wasn’t there a cement factory there that helped with the finances of the ranch? In the ESCAPE book there was a sewing factory, but that was 20 years ago. I don’t understand the home schooling aspect either. Can anybody just not go to school and say they’re home schooled? Aren’t there some sort of codes or ?? requirements, testing, etc. involved? Its state by state to decide, that much I know.</p>

One of the telephone numbers used to report claims of abuse at a polygamist sect’s Texas ranch was previously associated with a Colorado woman whom authorities have named a “person of interest,” a court document says.</p>

<p>Rozita Swinton, 33, has been arrested in a case that is not directly related to the Texas raid.</p>

<p>1 of 2 The telephone calls in late March prompted authorities to raid the Yearning For Zion (YFZ) Ranch in Eldorado, Texas, where 437 children were removed. </p>

<p>The ranch is owned by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon offshoot that practices polygamy.</p>

<p>Rozita Swinton, 33, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was arrested this month on a charge of making a false report to police.

An arrest warrant has been dropped for a man thought to be the husband of a teenage girl whose report of abuse triggered a raid on a polygamous sect’s Texas compound, authorities said Friday.</p>

<p>A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman would not say why the warrant was dropped for Dale E. Barlow, 50, who lives in Colorado City, Ariz. Barlow has denied knowing the 16-year-old girl who called a crisis center.</p>

<p>The girl reported that she was a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and that she was beaten and raped at the sect’s Eldorado ranch.
