Popcorn ceilings advice

Why the difference? It’s been awhile since I’ve had to make these decisions.

To go smooth, they have to sand and do a lot more prep work. I also have a lot of fur downs so it’s not just the ceilings.

Did they give a price for using thin drywall and just covering the ceiling? That is the other option instead of removing texture- or just leaving it as is.

My husband says…that is what we will do in our bathroom. Very thin drywall over what’s there.

Our ‘70s house had popcorn in every room. They had been repainted and patched so many times. Because it’s a messy job, we had a contractor do it each time he updated an area of the house. Best decision ever. I’ll be honest, I never thought about there being asbestos in the ceiling. It’s been 5 years since the last room was done and so far, we don’t seem to have any lung problems. :crossed_fingers:

They didn’t, but i don’t see how that would be cost effective. We have 14-foot vaulted ceilings so there’s a lot of surface area. And lots of angles that I think would make things difficult. But I’ll ask before we accept a bid.

Next week a general contractor will give us a bid on work that includes the popcorn and painting. I’m curious how prices might differ.

Bumping this up as we are inching closer to making a decision on who to use. I was on the phone with a guy today and forgot to ask this.

Those of you who had it done … Do you need to empty the kitchen cabinets? I was hoping to store my china cabinet stuff in there.

TIA

I wouldn’t.
