I have a very small countertop dishwasher in my apartment, which I bought when I was assuming I would be living by myself for the foreseeable future, and would not need a larger one. Aaaaaaand then my friend broke up with her boyfriend and moved in with me, and she bakes a lot. Really wishing I had gotten a larger one :|

I have never lived in a place where the kitchen sink did not have a garbage disposal…

Growing up we never had a garbage disposal because my Mom pulled it out after one to many stoppages. When I moved to my present city our house had a disposal. I love it and can’t imagine not having one. I do compost my larger vegetable scraps and mainly use the disposal for what is left on the dishes or cutting board. I also have a trash compactor. We use it daily and empty it once a week.
All three of my kids live in apartments without a disposal. I hate how dirty their sinks look. One has a dishwasher the others do not. My oldest has a small kitchen and it is tight to have a dish rack but she found an apartment sized one at Target. The bonus of a tiny kitchen counter and sink is that they wash the dishes in a more timely manor.
