Thanks. I don’t know if they would be able to handle that though. They aren’t too tech savy. I’m not necessarily looking for the cheapest options, just the easiest for them. Can they port to a prepaid cell phone and then to their new house?

I doubt you can port it to a prepaid cell phone, however, you have to ask the phone companies about that. Just call.

So Google Voice does not let you port a landline to a Google Voice phone number. Can you do a 2 step process, ie first port to a cell phone and then port the number to Google Voice?

Based on my porting experiences with Ooma, that process of double transfer takes about 3-4 weeks. Better off with a VOIP such as Vonage, OOma, italkbb or even magic jack.

I suspect you can with TMobile. Call them and ask. Tell them you want to port it to one of their prepaid phones that you put a$100 card on it that will be good for 1000 minutes you can use for the course of a year. You will also need to ask new landline carrier about porting that prepaid phone number to the new landline.

^ yes. You want to keep the phone number, so do it. You can sign up for verizon’s call message service so you can check messages remotely. Cost will be a drop in the bucket.
