<p>Saving a small town from ruthless extermination at the hands of reprisal-seeking Nazis, as his commando team did, would make for a gripping essay…and I’m sure there are plenty of GIs today who have similar accomplishments to their credit, but how many have high GPAs and SATs and signed up for the military out of high school?</p>
