Possible to get in with SAT I of 1930 combined?

So seems like most people who got accepted had SAT scores of at least 2000ish. I’m a bit worried…I am a ESL student who moved to the states in 8th grade…speak decent english but more fluent in another language. My SAT I is Math 690 Reading 580 Writing 660, and my GPA isn’t bad like 3.88 (UW) or so. took 3APs in Junior Year and taking another 3 currently. I’ve moved around a lot due to family relocations and have been to 5 different schools in the past five years, so ECs aren’t amazing due to inconsistency…but there are a few, such as first chair flute, JV tennis, Online Editor, 200+hrs of CS…

I’m aiming at the business school. is my chance…not so good?

Thanks in advance for any help!

1930 is fine, you’re right around average and your other stats sound great.

Here is the breakdown info for this year’s freshman
[Freshmen Profile - USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/fresh_profiles.html)

Thanks tumblweed…I just thought it’s on the very low end. I’ve looked at that freshman profile a long time ago and basically know everything on it by heart. but it hasn’t assured me much…or i guess i’m not even supposed to be assured =P

any other opinion on this appreciated. how much emphasis exactly does USC put on your SAT scores…it’s really my dream school > <

ESL and 5 different schools in the last 5 years?
With a history of having to adapt to new environments and doing well, and having to learn a new language, combined your good uw GPA and 6 APs it seems to me that USC would welcome such a student.
Be aware that USC looks at the application as a whole. USC certainly does not emphasize the SAT score, which is fine anyway.

Best of luck!

Thanks Sequoia =)

Although I understand it’s really useless to start this kinda chance thread (since i already applied by dec.1st), just can’t help it since i feel so not confident.

Thanks anyways. fingers crossed for all.

You’ll be fine, with that sort of background and those stats, I would be very surprised if you didn’t get in.

That’s very reassuring, Hawkwings =)
Even if all of you just said nice things to be encouraging and supportive, I still really appreciate it. After all, most chance threads are posted just for the peace of mind…but there are always very insightful comments/advices, of course.

I would not consider myself very talented as a writer, and I often felt like what ive gone through these years is beyond my ability to express as words. When I just started working on my app essay, I was never able to go too far because I would get very emotional as I recalled the details of my past experiences. It’s mostly over though. I’m really looking forward to strating a fresh and exciting life in college, and everything about usc sounds like my dream. it’s just I don’t know if i was able to work that all into my app package, and after looking at so many amazing stats posted up here, I just hope I have done everything I could.

Thanks again to you all; you really made usc sound like a family before I even become a part of it ;)

Have you visited the school? You definitely should (if you can) before you make your final decision.

Hawkwings - Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to do so yet. I just attended several seminars/high school visits where I talked to some USC representatives. But I will definitely pay a visit before making the decision - given the best case that im accepted =)

how do you like the school? I know I could probably find plenty of personal opinions elsewhere, but it never hurts to ask for more ;P

I love being at USC, of course! The campus is beautiful, the classes are challenging and interesting (mostly), I’ve had far more good professors than bad ones, school spirit is all around, and the football games are amazing. Want to know anything specific?

Hmm, one quick question about admission, if the text below appears on my application status, is it not going to change again until they have made the final decision? (Submitted on Dec1st)

Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2010)
We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application

As for USC itself…I’m mostly concerned with dorms. What options do freshmen have out there and how are the USC dorms in general?

btw, anyone’s opinion welcomed =)

mimi, that status is quite standard. In fact you might be ahead of the game a bit, since they are “reviewing”. Unless things have changed this year, I believe, if I remember corectly, the very first status is “we have received…”
The status will remain like that for quite a while, possibly into March…until you may or may not get a “we have made a decision…” (some didn’t ever get that status till they got their answer in the mail)

There’s quite a selection of dorms. On acceptance, you will receive a big brochure on all the choices. For freshman they are all on campus. You could choose either dorms (two person rooms mostly) with communal bathrooms, or suites (2 person rooms…3 or 4 rooms, some singles …5 to 8 persons per suite and 2 full bathrooms). When the time comes, you’ll get a lot more info on options.

Sequoia - Thanks for the info, it’ll probably make more sense to worry about further details later =)

hopefully I don’t go crazy waiting for these 3 months…

ah status just changed -

Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don’t receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.

so I suppose this is the last update before they notify me that they have mailed the desicion (or even without doing so)?

well since I’m 200% sure that I won’t be considered for scholarships…then just have to wait til march? seems like forever…

We’re in the same boat man, the wait is killing me.
