Possible to run DI XC and Track?

Example:
A friend of mine ran a 17:00 5k in an average race by senior year. He is at a low D-I school in the America East conference, but not at all elite. I just don’t know if it will be possible to be recruited with your times, but keep definitely trying. Training over the summer can do wonders.

^ and you’re about 2 minutes slower than this … there are 30,000 high schools in the USA … there are probably over a quarter million kids who have times in that 2 minute gap … and you’ve got to catch virtually all of them to get onto a D1 squad.

The men in college D1 xc usually run longer distances than 5k, like 8k distance, so if you hate running 3200 meters you’d probably really hate doing 8k. To get any serious athletic scholarship money at a big program you have to be running 5k in 15 minutes flat or better consistently. I’m in Florida the fourth largest state and state champion high school runners here sometimes are lucky to get book money. Enjoy high school xc, it’s a great sport, concentrate on your class work now first and when you get to college you’ll find others like yourself who enjoy running just for the joy of running without having to be on a D1 squad.
