My record may not be as strong as some other people’s, but when I attended the Amherst Diversity Open House I got to speak with the admissions committee. They said that they weren’t just looking for perfect GPAs and SATs, but for diverse students with the potential of bringing an interesting and unconventional prospective to their school. Among the things they emphasized was that they were looking for people from various backgrounds since they intended to move away from the elitist stereotype that many people seem to have about Amherst.

Here are my stats in case you’re interested:
I am Cuban and migrated to South Florida when I was six. Obviously, Spanish is my native tongue. I attend an elite public duel-enrollment public high school in which we take college classes in the morning and high school classes in the afternoon. Before I was part of a Broadcasting Media Arts magnet program in both my old high school and my middle school. I even had one of short films selected for a local film festival. Aside from a passion for film I plan to study Political Science (with a concentration on International Relations) and would love to produce a documentary film.
