Post your favorite family games/boardgames

Ticket to Ride is 100% our favorite game ever. I bought it on March 10th as we were heading into quarantine and I can’t even guess at how many times we’ve played it since. We started with the U.S. version and also added the European one.

We just got Sushi Go, which is pretty cute, but I keep seeing mention of Sushi Go Party. I need to figure out what the difference is.

Sushi Go Party has more card types within each category associated with different point values. You can play the original Sushi Go game with it, or you can play with different menus that have different cards/different point values/different ways to play. The instructions give you multiple different menus to try or you can make up your own menu. It keeps the game interesting.

Heads Up
Life-the old Sponge Bob version

Scrabble with adapted themes: foods, games, vehicles, etc.
Trivia games on the console

@Glitterbug Sushi Go Party allows you to play with more people than Sushi Go. It has some new cards, including different kinds of desserts which are more complicated than simple collecting puddings. Because of some of the logistics, you can’t do as much planning based on what cards are left in the deck. The main reason we play it though is because we often are a large group.

Our traditional family card game is what we call Crazy Rummy. I’ve seen it called Progressive Rummy and maybe Arkansas Rummy. Heard it is similar to Phase 10 although I have not played Phase 10. Kids in our family learn it as soon as they are able (about 6 or 7) so I have played it more than 50 years. We play at every holiday and I play with my parents every Sunday. Before COVID, my S and DIL joined in most Sundays.

I should probably add that since I first posted this thread, we have acquired King of Tokyo (with some additional girly monsters given we have two daughters who like them), and Cockroach Poker. We love both. Neither are particularly deep, but they are silly fun. Cockroach Poker involves a little more strategy than initially meets the eye.

We like Monopoly, phase 10, dominoes, rook.

Monopoly causes too many fights in our house, lol! We had to get rid of it. We are trying to find games that don’t involve too much player elimination, if any at all. If a game does involve player elimination, we are ok with it if the game is short and doesn’t involve a lot of downtime for eliminated players. Now that it’s been mentioned twice, though, I think I need to look into phase 10.

We like Throw, throw burrito and Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza. We had fun and our ten year old grandson loved the games. There is nothing better than throwing a burrito at someone.

“Screw Your Neighbor” was our go-to card game in college 25 years ago. Still play every now and again.

H and I had saved our circa 1981 Trivial Pursuit game which we only played by asking the card questions. Got it out this spring and realized it is far too dated to be enjoyable. So much newer trivia has replaced the old and decades later we have forgotten a lot of it. We’ll stick with surfing on our computers.

@amsunshine – look for “cooperative” games. At Christmas we played Pandemic (a super game that later cut a bit close in theme) and it was an eyeopener for me to take a really super competitive group (runs in the family!) and essentially put them on one team. 45 min game time.

Code Names is great too because you form teams and it doesn’t last long and you can just keep switching team players. My favorite.

We own a lot of the Ticket to Ride games. My favorite by far is Rails and Sails. A friend just gave our dd the UK/Penn game. It is has quite a few different spins than the others. I’ve only played it twice, so I am reserving judgment, but I liked it.

We do love Pandemic but have not brought ourselves to play it since quarantine. Forbidden Desert is our fave coop at the moment. We also like The Mind and Space Team (a crazy coop). CodeNames is also on our fave list in my OP.
