Am starting all over again, watching TED 3 minute presentations to figure out how to make a real impression in 3 minutes. Will go for a “sticky” message that will stay with the listeners.

OK, planning to emphasize hope & teamwork, which are crucial for managing those of us with progressive chronic conditions.

Docs may benefit from knowing how the condition changed your life: 10 years ago vs. 3 years ago; 3 years ago vs. now. Putting a human face on a disease will be of value to docs and to their future patients. (Serial photos of family vacations may tell a compelling story.)

Docs, especially specialists, tend to meet patients only late in the course of a disease and may not understand the changes that have been forced on your life and the accommodations that you and your family have made.

See, that’s the thing; because of my great medical team, I have continued to lead a pretty active life. The main change is I can no longer swim and I now need O2 for flying & altitudes. I can still do more than 90% of “healthy” folks, according to my docs.

I have switched resigned my prior career and have started & run a nonprofit corporation to improve treatment for folks with emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

That’s great that you are doing so well. Hope and teamwork would be great take home messages for your audience.

Yea, the two docs I sent the script to were both VERY enthused and think it would be a very different and upbeat message that docs need to hear. It is empowering to remind them that they have tools that are non-pharma that make a HUGE difference in the quality of our lives.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks Xiggi, for continuing to urge me to look “outside the box.” Many of those TED presentations are AMAZING! There is even one by an 11-year-old future organic farmer! Am encouraged that the two docs who read the script pronounced the new one FANTASTIC!

HiMom,

We are rooting for you! Can you post a video of your presentation to youtube?

Thanks for the thought–am not fond of posting videos (particularly on YouTube), but good thought. Will continue to ponder. Appreciate your suggestions.
