PR/Advertising Prof Parents - Help w/salary requirements

Thought I’d update this thread a year and a half later! And to give “hope” to parents of PR/Comm students… :)

So, D DID get a raise at her 90 day review. She also got a raise after 6 months. So patience paid off, with a couple of raises getting her a little closer to a “decent” salary.

However, tomorrow she starts a new job! Wasn’t specifically looking, kind of fell into this position - PR at a larger, very well respected agency - GREAT benefits, less overall working time (she has been working 10-11 hour days daily with no lunch break per say since she started - ridiculous!) and a salary $10K more than her current salary!

She has worked her butt off, and is very good at what she does - didn’t think she would make a change so soon, but there seemed to be no good reason NOT to make the change (she probably would have outgrown (in terms of not much advancement) her current agency in the next year or so for sure.

She leaves on a good note with her employer - they even told her that if her new job doesn’t work out, their door is fully open to taking her back at any time.

I’m super proud. :)

To give the employer more leverage in setting the pay level.

If the applicant names a price too high, the employer rejects the applicant.

If the applicant names a price significantly lower than what the employer is willing to pay, the employer offers the applicant a low pay level, but higher than what the applicant named.

congrats to your daughter!!! sounds like a good move!

That’s great news! Her hard work is paying off. Before you know it she’ll be starting her own company.

Totally forgot about this thread…congrats to abasket’s D…!!!

Mine is fine; fully employed at graduation last May in advertising (multiple offers)…salary? not great but she is paid overtime right now (which is working out quite well)…working hard and loving it!!
