Prefer supportive/collaborative to super competitive atmosphere - pls advise re: Bates, Colby, Conn College

My D19 found Colby very collaborative. She was not polysci (pre-med), but Colby’s Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs has a great reputation, and attracts impressive speakers (she attended a few events).

Mine applied to all three as well. Is currently at Bates and very happy, and sounds similar in personality (more shy, quiet). You probably know that Bates is in the top 10 of colleges with great first-year programs, and I think that definitely helped with the college transition. The first year was pretty amazing - the move-in, small group trip, orientation, dorm with lots of first years who hung out all the time, good first-year seminar where you really get to know 15 students/professor, excellent advising/check-ins, lots of traditions (puddle jump, etc.), and highly-ranked food! All of these things helped my student feel comfortable at Bates from the very beginning. But all three colleges are wonderful options. Congrats!

thanks for the feedback - I would be thrilled if my student ends up at Bates. We’ll be going to the various expected students days to see what feels most comfortable. Fingers crossed!

@TigressP81 I chose Conn over Bates and currently a Junior. Lmk if you have any specifics I can answer, they are both quite similar schools.

Hi, I’m curious as to how you decided on Conn over Bates, if you don’t mind sharing.
