Bumping up this great resource for those just finding CC!

Can you suggest some BA safety schools for my sophomore son to consider? We are beginning to compile a list of schools to visit so it would be helpful to hear other people’s thoughts on this.

There are big lists of all types of schools both here
[The MT Project List of Musical Theatre Programs](http://www.themtproject.org/?page_id=40) and here
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1335445-big-list-mt-colleges-program-type.html

Keep in mind that just because a program is a BA doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a safety. Some non-audition programs that I personally point some of my students to when they’re first considering are CalState Chico, Columbia in Chicago, Stephens College in Missouri or Carthage in Wisconsin (especially to students who identify a bit more as singers). The list of non-audition schools seems to get smaller and smaller – many of the programs are choosing to audition their students now. All best to you and you son as you start this journey!

2 more that we found were North Central College (near Chicago) and University of Tulsa

I didn’t realise the North Central was non-audition! I’ve made that correction on my site, thanks! UTulsa does require auditions though.

Also a note on my post - the schools I listed are just a FEW of the non-audition BAs (some are BFAs as well) out there. Those are simply the ones I list first to my students upon consideration - many other good choices out there!

Since my D was in the top 10% of her class (and guaranteed admission) she used our state flagship (UT Austin) as a “safety.”

This string of posts is still highly relevant to all beginning the MT audition process! I recommend that everyone starting out take the time to read it all!

Smart to bump this up, Christie2.

Good luck to all who are beginning the process - you will be fine and your child will end up at a wonderful place, one way or the other!

A big thank you to those who have gone before us on this journey! I have learned so much and continue to benefit from the knowledge that is shared on this forum.

Bumping this thread for all the juniors just starting out . . . make sure you read through from the start. Very valuable advice!

A most excellent thread! Bumping.

Bumping this for all the newbies starting to inquire. Wish we could get it pinned!!! If you’re just starting out, take the time to read the whole thread!

Bump

Bumping for those of you getting ready to head down this crazy-roller-coaster-of-a-ride!

I have pinned this very informative and helpful ongoing thread on the MT Forum.

We cannot have too many pinned threads or they fill the first page of the forum. I took down the Acceptance threads for the past admissions round and left up the Final Decision threads, since it is now July.

Thanks, @Collegemom!!

Awesome info!

So glad this FINALLY got pinned! I encourage everyone planning on applying MT to back to the start and plan on reading it through. The hours spent will be well worth it!!!

Roller coaster ride beginning…junior daughter starting a daytime MT conservatory and finishing high school online…

Reading this thread is exhausting! My D is a sophomore and in MT forever. She attends an arts high school. We are thinking at this point she will end up going to college for BFA or BA in MT or Theater performance, etc. I was wondering…for the audition process…do you apply to the colleges you are interested in first, then set up auditions? You have to be accepted academically first, right? Also…she has some seniors at her school who went to Unifieds this weekend in NYC. Do you apply for those schools also and set up auditions at Unifieds?? I am rather confused can you tell LOL…it is so overwhelming & just discussing it with her is stressing her out I can tell already. I know she has to prepare early though…
