you can never be to safe!
stock up on lots of pop tarts, guns and chain saws…and you will be fine.
This is cracking me up! I say I don’t want to live in a world without antibiotics, anesthesia, or contraceptives, so let me go with the first wave. The zombies can enjoy my pantry full of jelly (I have a jelly problem…).
I have thought about the antibiotic thing. Can you imagine having something as simple as an ear infection or a UTI?
I like thinking of Zombies with Jelly smeared all over their faces -although I know Zombies only eat people (LOL)
So if gas gets too old to be used, I take it that it’s completely unrealistic for everyone in The Walking Dead still to be driving around however many years after the apocalypse?
I really liked The Dog Star. The Road was good, but I can’t say I “liked” it!
Well, there are homeopathic/natural remedies to UTIs and ear infections. It would be time to start fermenting to get some of those preventive benefits.
In the last year or so, I’ve read Station Eleven, Seveneves and The Fireman, all of which are apocalyptic novels one way or another. I’ve done enough backpacking and gardening I could probably last for a while, no idea if I’d be one of hose who survives or gives up. I’m not squeamish so that’s a plus. Back in 2003 we lost power for a week and a half due to the big blackout. We just ate out of the fridge and then the freezer no big deal.
We were in Germany when Chernobyl happened so I think about Indian Point blowing up fairly often. (We were 1000 miles away from Chernobyl and the Geiger counters were measuring more radiation than was allowed in the bio labs.) That’s like being Daytona Beach when the Indian Point blows up. I figure I’m dead if it ever happens. We are outside the 50 mile evacuation zone, so we are safe. Ha ha ha.
@greenwitch I have a jelly problem too. I loved my French family. The first day they took me down to the basement and showed me all their homemade jams and jellies. I knew I’d picked the right family. Yum.
Zombies…no worries. If I live next to the scarecrow from WOZ, Dilbert’s boss, and 3 of the current presidential candidates, the zombies would be fleeing as fast as they can from my area!!
Start growing a big patch of purple coneflower/echinacea to be your substitute antibiotic. In case of enemies, grow some monk’s hood/wolfbane/aconite. The Borgias loved it!
@doschicos that was interesting /funny.
I thought the earthquake one was sensible , the pot one was funny and the one with the gas mask was scary.
With North Korea being so North Korea-ish lately does anyone have newer thoughts on this - especially west coast and Hawaii families?
Living in the PNW, I worry more about earthquakes. I have six-ish months of food on hand. I expand my garden each year. I may be doubling my flock this year- I have 5 chickens in the outside hen house and 5 baby chicks currently in a brooder box in the house. Hopefully none of them are roosters.
On a half acre, I can presumably grow a fair amount of veggies to accompany my egg supply. Sadly I’m limited to a 450’ square garden plot because yard rats (deer) roam. In a pinch, I’d have no qualms supplementing my family’s protein needs.
We have tsunamis and hurricanes and are supposed to have food for a week and water as well. We figure we have enough in our pantry and often have about a case of bottled water. In a pinch, can use the water in water heater.
Not only is NK being a little NK-ish, I’m a bit concerned that we are being a little too NK-ish.
If you are in an area with nuclear fallout, you can’t rely on local foods sources. The other thing that would suck is that weather travels West to East so radiation would spread. Zombie attacks and natural disasters are much easier to prepare for.
Zombie preparedness is a thing in the US. I hope the program doesn’t get cut.

@threebeans You brought this thread back from the dead. Proof the Zombie Apocalypse is happening now! 8-X
