Make sure you get that Financial PR before you submit an app or tell other coaches. At that point your D drops off their list. Not saying you cannot get back on list, but maybe not as favorable. Do the NPC and ask for a FA preread is money is a factor
Curious how long kids hold out for support if lower on the priority list for coaches. Until Oct 1? Every day that ticks by becomes more risky of rosters filling up I think.
I’ve wondered the same thing. Does anyone know if most of the offers for Ivy XC are given in August or September? My son is still in contact with a coach and actually has a zoom call this Friday. He’s hoping he’ll get some information regarding his outlook for a spot, but unsure. Before receiving a zoom request, he had gone a month without hearing anything from this coach, so he is very confused about how interested the school is.
My son went 3 months without hearing from a coach, even after asking the coach point blank about where the recruiting was. And then out of the blue the coach called with an offer.
So it can happen, and makes sense to stay in touch with all schools of interest. However waiting a long time would make me nervous.
My son had already committed to another school, so hopefully that coach will be in closer contact with recruits going forward.
For XC, in a normal year quite a few, probably most, of those decisions are made after official visits. That can be as late as mid Oct to early Nov in some cases. I’ve known a few kids who finished their apps on the bus ride home from the state meet.
So it’s not at all unusual for a distance recruit to still be waiting right now. Of course, in a typical year there’d be the reassurance of having a few official visits planned for fall. I’d ask the coach what his timeline for making these sorts of decisions might look like this year. Even the coach might not know.
Cinnamon1212, Politeperson, Thanks so much for your reply. It’s helpful to hear other’s experiences.
Getting back to the preread request comment, I agree, not all schools do prereads. D21 had interest from 3 high academic D3 programs and 2 other D3 programs which she had narrowed her search down to. The 3 high academic programs all did pre-reads on her early in July, and she received offers for a roster spot within 2 weeks of submitting her info for the prereads (since they were favorable). They had also asked her for academic info over the winter just to see where she was at with regards to her academics. The coaches also provided advice on what she could do to make her application more attractive to the admissions dept.
Out of the other 2 schools, the one did ask for her academic info back in June because they offered merit money. The coach was then able to talk to admissions and they told the coach she would be accepted and could offer “x” amount in merit money. The other school did not offer merit money, nor did prereads, but still made her an offer for a roster spot if she was able to get admitted.
