In all honestly, I think it is in Northwestern’s interest to start offering perhaps 100-150 full paid scholarships a year and start bringing in some top talent (perhaps, those who would have otherwise gone to yale or harvard). In a matter of a year or two, the student body quality could increase and then people will perceive it better, and then more students will want to enroll, and so forth. The perceived selectivity of a school matters a lot. For instance, around 3 years ago, Cornell was not perceived as that selective relative to other schools.
