Princeton Class or 2021 EA / RD Application thread

Oh he did questbridge @GettingRekt @misad1892

Mom of current Princeton freshman here. Last year it took about 20 minutes for the portal to load when my D logged on for her SCEA decision right at 3pm EST. It was an extremely long 20 minutes. She was in her room alone, checking and I kept wondering why she wasn’t saying anything. Good luck to everyone and remember that there are many wonderful places to go to college and the decision you will be receiving is no reflection at all about your worth as a person.

Is is typical for the portal to lag severely right when decisions come out at 3 p.m. EST? Badly enough that we would be better off just waiting until 3:30 or 4:00?

Well seeing as decisions are coming out in 2 days and 16 hours I thought it appropriate we brought back the emoticon from last year. Good cluck everyone ~:>

(Side Note: Perhaps this one might be more appropriate for us this year, what with all the talk of mom’s spaghetti and palms being sweaty :-SS )

@18collegebound my friend last year got stuck in a queue for quite some time…15-20 min. So maybe but just in case I’ll prob have no self control and start checking at 3 on the dot hahaha

I’m way too stubborn/impatient to wait until 3:30. I’ll refresh for 30 minutes if I have to :stuck_out_tongue:

@gmanhax sameeee

I bought loads of junk food today in preparation and I’ve already eaten about half of it… Pre-freshman 15?

Im gonna end up taking my final on thursday shaking. When i turn in my essays ill have to apologize to my teacher for how shaky my handwriting is from being so nervous

Very funny that none of us realised we’ve been writing under a wrongly named thread
“Princeton Class or 2021 EA / RD Application thread”…With all the smart assess here

No, that’s just to distinguish between the legends who actually get into Princeton and the mere mortals who are hopelessly applying.

@py1123 either way we are all human. And regardless of whether one is a "mere mortal " or “legend” we are the same. Princeton or not… Ivy or not… It doesn’t even matter where anyone is… What matters is the person and not the institution!..

Honestly good substitutes to the Ivies are the Claremonts and the NE liberal arts colleges like Swarthmore and Haverford. Princeton is obviously everyone here’s #1 but if decisions don’t go as planned, there are so many other schools that truly can compete with Princeton. Princeton doesn’t determine your value, and regardless of acceptance, these decisions usually work out for the best because schools generally know how well you will do (or not do) at their schools, and when a top-tier believes you will do well at their school, they’ll let you in.

I was accepted EA last year, and I can assure you that I did not receive any emails nor did my counselor receive any requests for quarter term grades - here’s what it looks like : imgur…com/a/viCze
(remove the extra period)

@Mrmerchant When you signed in to the portal, is the letter there right away? Or is there another step before seeing the admissions letter?

Me: You have an HL Math and HL Econ exam tomorrow, followed by an HL Chem exam on Thursday. Thou must review.
Also me: Who cares about IB, you applied to colleges already
Me: You’re gonna get rejected if you fail your exams
Also me: You need to stare at the countdown clock

@oplurobha the letter is there right away, no landing page or anything. However, my portal was down for about 8 minutes due to excess traffic

Someone post the deferral letter too.

^ :))

From someone else I know that was deferred last year:

Dear ___________:

The admissions committee has completed Early Decision deliberations and has decided to defer a decision on your application until the spring. We had many more qualified early applicants than we had places and we had to make some difficult choices in this exceptionally powerful pool. Your record of achievement was recognized and the committee appreciated the time, care and effort you put into your application.

Often a deferral means that the committee would like to see your senior year academic performance. Your application will be reconsidered in February and March with the entire applicant pool. Please be sure your counselor sends us the Mid-year School Report as soon as your mid-year grades are complete. If you have additional information you would like us to review, please send it to us by the end of January. Please be aware that we expect as strong an applicant pool in Regular Decision as we had in this early round.

We realize this defer decision is disappointing news, especially since Princeton was your first choice. We look forward to evaluating your application again with the entire applicant pool.

Sincerely,
Janet Lavin Rapelye
Dean of Admission
