Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

Hi @Pburgmom haha I’ve been kinda quiet due to finals and the fact that I need to refocus myself on my other applications-- I have been deferred. At first I did feel pretty defeated, but I remembered that on Sunday I had this sixth sense moment when I knew I wouldn’t get accepted Wednesday. It’s all good though; I honestly think I cried more before my decisions (out of nervousness) than I did after haha. God has a plan for me, and this deferral has shown me how many people truly support and care about me. Some are even petitioning for Princeton to accept me haha and writing complaints. Haha they’re so funny.

Congratulations to all those who got in!! You deserve it, and Princeton is so lucky to have you!! To those who got deferred or rejected, please see this as an opportunity to look beyond this amazing school. I planned on not applying anywhere else if I got accepted, but I’m glad I now have so many open doors to look through since the door to Princeton is possibly closed. Don’t lose hope! Y’all got this.

@52balletvieta I’m so sad that you were deferred:(. If it was meant to be, it will be. After watching your dance videos, I realized that not only are you so sweet and amazingly smart, but you have a beautiful talent that needs to be shared with the world. There’s nothing more beautiful to me than watching a talented dancer bring a story to life and bring me to tears just watching. Keep up the great work and those RD applications and I look forward to hearing what amazing school you will choose in the spring ~:> Thank you for sharing your story with us! I’m so glad that you are handling this temporary set back with the “grace of a dancer”. Enjoy the holiday break and the very best of luck to you!

@Pburgmom Thank you so much-- you’re words are giving me so much encouragement right now! Congratulations to your daughter on her college journey and acceptance to Princeton!! I hope you enjoy your break as well!

Hello guys! This will probably be my final post on CC for the time being, but I would just like to deliver a final message before I go and hibernate. I just recently posted my stats on the results page here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1831713-official-princeton-university-class-of-2020-scea-results.html. However, the page still seems rather empty when compared to the results thread for previous years. I know that posting your stats on this thread is definitely not mandatory, but for the benefit of next year’s applicants, a more accurate representation of the results would be truly helpful (I am absolutely certain that all of you guys have looked through the decision threads of previous years at least once before today). I know that some of you guys don’t want to give away too much personal information, but you don’t have to fill out every question. You can just post your ACT/SAT scores, GPA, essay reflection, and intended major and call it a day. It’s just a way to pay it forward for the future generations of students who will use our experiences as a refuge for comfort while waiting for their own decisions.

Also, here is the thread for all deferred applicants. I won’t be an active participant, but I will certainly come and check back every once in a while. Don’t be afraid of your deferral! Use this thread to comfort each other, provide inspiration and motivation, and perhaps bash Princeton for making the mistake of deferring you every once in a while. Remember, you’re still in the pool! Although the chances for admission in March are not that great, you still have a chance (Princeton’s acceptance rate is really low anyways, so the significance isn’t that big): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1842161-official-princeton-scea-2020-deferred-students-thread.html

Lastly, I said that I would write every accepted person on this thread a personalized congratulatory note back on Post #1636 (the super long one). I haven’t forgotten that promise. So, tomorrow (almost certain that it’ll be my last day on CC) I’ll message all of you guys who were accepted (I’ll try my best to get to everyone). It’s just one last expression of appreciation for all the wonderful experiences I’ve had as a part of this community.

And with that, I bid farewell to this amazing group of people. I wish you all the very best of luck in all your future endeavors.

@azwu331 Elegantly written, as always. I hope you will keep up posted on what other schools you consider and where you end up. Its not all just about Princeton, ya know!

I was able to process my thoughts after a few days, so I thought I would share it with you guys.

At the end of November, I was rejected by a university outside of US without an interview, when it claims to interview 80% of its applicants. I was expecting at least an interview based on my grades, so I was really shocked and started to have doubts about my ability. On the next day, my best friend was invited to an interview by the same university.

Then it came the Princeton deferral, when 3 of my good friends were accepted into their top choice. And then there was me, not even accepted into any university, with 1 rejection and 1 deferral.

But surprisingly, Princeton deferral did not hurt as badly as I expected. I know there is a slim chance of me getting in in the RD round, but the worth of my 17 years of life is not decided by university decisions. I know who I am, and what I want in the future.

Thanks to those rejections, today I’m more confident in myself–not in my ability of “getting into universities”, but in my ability of dealing with the situation when things don’t work out the way I wish them to be.

I wonder if an email campaign telling Princeton admissions about @azwu331 and his energy and contributions to this forum. I sent one in, maybe you could joining me?

@mprut0987 Cambridge?

I’ve been boycotting this thread and the stats page ever since I was deferred… Now I’m flooded with RD apps because I refused to do them till this decision lol. Does anyone know whether there’s a deadline to when we update the admissions officers with new stuff?

I would really appreciate it if everyone could come back to this thread in April and post where you finally decided to go. I think it would be helpful to next year’s group if folks could see that there is life (and success!) after EA decisions.

@kcarpenterfan My guidance counselor told me to sparingly update them after winter break, so about early January but not too early. And same: I put off my rd apps and now have three due in four days haha ehhh…

I would assume everyone deferred or rejected has a handful or more of RD apps to complete this week. Nearly 80% deferral rate should really raise a flag more most to assume they will need to complete RD applications.

How is everyone doing? For some reason, I miss this thread so much.
Soo… i hope you all are done with the app process by now. And happy new year!

Happy new years guys!

Is it a good sign that Princeton asked me to officially send my AP scores via the College Board? I was deferred EA.

@buglyfe19 I think it is kind of unusual. Did you self - report them? Wae there something unusual about the number of tests you took? The fact that they are requesting them is positive…it indicates you are still in the running. But it seems like they definitely are questioning something.

Did you submit SAT 2 subject tests? @buglyfe19

@desie1 I self-reported 5 AP exams. I passed all of them but they weren’t all 5s or anything like that.

@JasonMath yes I sent my Sat II scores

@buglyfe19 That’s quite strange; I’ve never encountered a situation where Princeton would need your AP scores. Unless they’re questioning your self-report or something, I think that the request may be a good sign. That being said, I can’t guarantee anything. Good luck!
