Today is the last day I have to go to school in order to redeem a scholarship. I’ve been waiting until now because the school wants to know to what college it should make the check payable…but I haven’t heard anything back from Princeton. My counselor hasn’t heard anything from Princeton either – no backdoor final transcript requests like the others’ counselors received. At this point I’ve accepted the reality that I most likely didn’t get off/will not get off the waitlist for Princeton. I am close to calling the waitlist off myself rather the other way around. It disappoints me not only how Princeton hasn’t released an update by now on waitlist progress and instead has people call to inquire about waitlist progress themselves, but also how I haven’t heard anything back from the admissions office two weeks after my 3 page letter arrived. It took 3 weeks of soul searching and writing and I had it formatted into an article from The Daily Princetonian on the new newspaper’s website, with updates molded as a Disqus comment. Yet I have heard nothing at all in regards to my status on the waitlist after such great efforts and lengths. The admissions officer I talked to the other simply said that “There may be a chance you still get off the waitlist” after I asked her if she had my most recent letter on file and if Princeton would still be taking people off the waitlist. I don’t know if she is leading me on or not. Probably the former because she doesn’t want to crush anyone’s soul.

The waitlist limbo shouldn’t be this painful. I wish in the future that Princeton can spare the pain for waitlist students by creating an active waitlist that allows waitlistees to more accurately gauge their chances of getting off the waitlist.
