Heres a fact:

THE US has aprx. 50 million smokers and only 1-2 milion of them will die from smoking-related illnesses

Dont forget that doctors in the USA assume that if a smoker gets lung cancer or lung disease, SMOKING CAUSED IT…

And lung disease and heart disease is most common cause death of non-smokers too!!

True! ANd lung cancer is very, very genetic–as is the case with most diseases. My grandmother has been smoking since she was 19. Granted, she’s as wrinkled as can be from it but she’s certaintly not dead.

if you really believe that smoking isn’t harmful that means you’re really dumb and you can probably only get into community college anyways (maybe). Have fun dying a premature death of cancer or maybe you’ll just spend the rest of your life with emphysema so all you can do is sit with your oxygen tank and smoke through the whole in your neck.

Not to mention that it’s sort of ILLEGAL for a 16 year old to be smoking.

It is not illegal for a 16-yr old to smoke…
It is illegal if your parents buy it for you in NC…

Only law is: Store clerks can not sell it to you…

*It is legal if your parents buy it for you in NC…

I was considering going to Pitzer College (one of the Claremont Colleges in California). Pitzer is a very activist/liberal/loose college that I liked a lot. One of the things about its student population, however, is that I heard it seems practically everyone smokes-- and that’s the stuff you can buy in small white cartons, as well as the stuff that comes in small plastic bags.

i don’t think any college will care if you smoke cigarettes. your an adult and your in college, if you decide to smoke nobody’s going to stop you.

i stopped smoking regularly but there’s nothing too bad about enjoying a smoke every couple months in moments that need a quick sensation of pleasure. sometimes when your extremely extremely stressed out…one cigarette can give you the moment of clarity needed. also, nothing wrong with enjoying a cigar after a huge accomplishment in life.

i’m sure many of you enjoy a drink of wine every once in a while at a family dinner…or a shot of liquor at a party…

don’t categorize the casual once in a long ass time smoker into a group of below par individuals of society…

Smokers smell bad. Their breath stinks. Their clothes reak. they can’t taste food.

And they don’t even know it. Why? Cause they can’t smell much anymore.

I still don’t get why people smoke. Somehow millions and millions of people know how to relax, how to chill, have figured out what to do with that nervous enegy…my, how do we do it!!!

If you need a cig to give you clarity, what are you gonna do in a real emergency and you can’t smoke?

And any coolness you think you get from smoking is lost from yellow teeth, smelly hair, and standing in an alley getting your fix.

you’re generalizing completely. smokers can’t smell?!? Please. What qualifies one as a smoker? 3 packs a day? Because the majority of smokers I know are bummers–aka: they don’t buy and they smoke recereationally. And that includes me. I can smell perfectly fine, thanks. ANd the smell is intoxicating. As a relaxer for the present moment and because I also drink and do other supposedyl destructive things, I’d say that all I’m doing is living my current life to the fullest and trying things out.

I don’t consider “smoking recreationally” to be a smoker. Would you mark “yes” on your housing forms to “Do you smoke?”. I sure wouldn’t think so. Thus, smoking recreationally doesn’t apply to the proven generalizations about smokers, although every cigarette you smoke takes 7 minutes off your life, no matter when or why or how you smoke it.

Relying on any kind of foreign substance to relax is just a bad habit in general.

“I still don’t get why people smoke.”

The same reason people drink and have casual sex…the experience and pleasure in the act of either of these activities cannot be substituted. Also, by the time someone is in college…“coolness” plays no role in the reasons why people smoke.

Everyday smoking is going to have detrimental affects to ones health, appearance, and quality of life. However, not everyone is an everyday smoker. Some people might just like to lite it up to celebrate that one memorable moment…(sex, graduation, climbing Mount Everest).

Nobody ever seems to have beef with drinking champagne on New Years…whats the difference between that and a smoke

Somehow I don’t think there are too many smokers climbing Mt. Everest ;)

If you smoke and don’t think you smell, then ask people…we can smell you a mile away

and ask those chain smokers you see, yep, once they were casual smokers themselves

and you should put on your application that you smoke, your clothes and books and belongings smell from smoking, and it permeates the room from you…blech

if it takes smoking to celebrate sex, mymy, something is missing

Smoking is, like, soooo unprestigious. If you smoke, please leave CC, and don’t bother applying to the ivies. HTH.
