Professor bans emails from students except to set up office appointment

<p>One of the reasons I discourage casual email from students is that some students slip into text-y, informal patterns as evidenced in the following article: <a href=“Professors’ Pet Peeves - Sociological Images”>http://thesocietypages.org/socimages/2014/08/25/professors-pet-peeves/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>I try to have students write and speak formally as much as possible because their world doesn’t offer regular opportunities to practice these behaviors. </p>
