Proud Mary

We had “Bridge” at our wedding in 1978.

Married in 1970 . But that was H#1 ;). Married DH in 1983, so no record there.

We got married in 1974 and our ‘wedding song’ was John Denver’s Annie’s Song.

We had “The Long and Winding Road” played on an organ. And our processional was “Ode to Joy” instead of the traditional wedding song.

Our “entering the reception room” song was the theme from Rocky. The photographer captured great photos of some of our guests in mid-air with their fists clenched. I’m not even sure we had a first dance song. It would have been very unlike me to do something “traditional” like that.

My sister and her groom recessed to “When I’m 64”. I had a brass quartet, but I don’t remember what they played. It was classical, just not the traditional wedding recessional thing.

Married in 1987. I wanted “Love Me Tender” (Elvis–I love Elvis). But H said his family (from Memphis) hated Elvis.
So we had “Truly” by Lionel Richie. Nice song–but too long to dance to (I was making the time-out sign at the DJ about halfway through it).

“Our Song” is really Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”

Wedding bands play Proud Mary because it is easy to play, that’s all.

Tonight my daughters’ choirs did a pops concert. The theme of the concert was “Will You Marry Me?” and the concert was divided into three sections: The courtship, the wedding, and the reception. (My D was asked to play the bride! )

Anyway, how coincidental was THIS??? In the wedding section of the program, the madrigals sang “Every Breath You Take.” The hilarious part, though, was the choreography. The song started out with loving couples, but then the girls came forward on the stage, and the boys stepped back and donned “stalker attire”–trenchcoats, sunglasses, hats, etc. During the rest of the song, they were sneaking up on the girls and and stalking them, trying to reel them in with fishing actions lol, while the girls were trying to get away from them!!! ROFL I’d never realized that that song was a common wedding song, but just as you mentioned it, it was featured in this pops concert! :D

We didn’t have a “wedding song” as ours was a DIY affair in my Mom’s living room, but we did make a tape of our favorite dancing music for when we pushed the chairs back.

A highlight was Nick Lowe’s “I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock and Roll”. Totally inappopriate, but a great song and all in good fun.

(And for the record, 25 years and 3 days later, the bride still rock and rolls.)

“Cheek To Cheek”. I’m not certain we really have an “our song”, but if we did it would probably be one of “Beast of Burden”, “Take Me To The River”, or Joan Armatrading’s “Willow”.

Garland: Happy anniversary! Are you doing something nice about it this weekend?

Well, this weekend is get the kid home from college weekend, so maybe not yet…we’re planning to plan something!

1980

Engagement Party - “On the Streeet where You Live.”

Wedding - First dance song was “Satin Doll.” We both like big band music.

I really am an old fart!

I like big band music too.
H and I didn’t have a special song, but had to choose something to lurch along to for the traditional first dance. Chose ‘Long Ago and Far Away’ just because I always thought the Dick Haymes/Helen Forrest original was so pretty.
