Providence College Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

We were offered the same to both schools 23k Providence and 28.5 Fairfield. I was Hoping for more from Providence My daughter is leaning towards Providence

Son was accepted EA into the business program at Providence.
No merit offered at all.

By comparison, Fairfield offered $100k in merit.
Not sure what is up with that, I guess maybe they think we want to pay $85k a year

Was this offer her financial aid package or was it separate? My daughter got 23K merit when she was accepted, but was given no financial aid or grants.

Wow! Amazing! Congratulations to your son!

Any nursing majors here considering Prov?

My daughter was accepted into the Nursing program - we’re from Massachusetts. She is still deciding though. How about you?

same. did you receive merit?

Yes. It’s the newness of the program that concerns her. I know PC will do a phenomenal job building the program but will that be enough for future employers. What is your daughter leaning towards?

She wants to go there. Did not receive merit.

Hi, my daughter was accepted into the nursing program and on the top of the list right now. Looking forward to hearing more about the program at accepted student day!

Question for Providence College applicants, ED, EA or RD: I’m looking at the stats here, and it seems to me that PC may be a bit of a reach for my daughter. I’m just wondering which schools you all considered as safety schools. I haven’t been able to generate a clear list of schools that would be maybe one tier down from PC.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this question. Thanks!

As far as schools still accepting applications my daughter applied to Stonehill College and Seton Hall. Both offered sizable merit scholarships. Other school applied to (but past their application window) was Quinnipiac. All great schools but Providence is definitely her top choice.

Loyola Chicago and JMU were my D24 likely schools (nothing is a “safety” anymore, right?! Both have acceptance rates above 70 percent (at least historically) whereas providence is more like 50 percent and was a target for us. Good luck!

Thanks for replying! Did you consider Sacred Heart U?

Also look at how many kids from your hs that Providence is pulling. Not sure what makes them a reach for your child, but they strongly favor high GPAs as they have been TO for a long time. You’ll have a much better chance with ED at PC if you are willing to pay sticker (not sure if they’ll do merit with ED). They may also have a bit of favoritism for the Catholic high schools. Many of my friends at Catholics high schools often do Scranton as a likely and Sacred Heart.

She did not apply to SHU as she really liked Fairfield and was accepted EA. SHU is also a great school but not sure it qualifies as a safety school.

Thank you for this specific feedback! I thought I saw people in previous threads talking about high gpas, great ECs, multiple APs, and still getting deferred when applying ED. (Not that that description fits my daughter but it made me think acceptance for her is unlikely) I don’t know the ins and outs of this process, though, so I may be missing something.

And as for the financial side, you’re saying that if someone could pay full price, that that would impact chances of acceptance? This is news to me also as I assumed need-blind was more the standard.

Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate it!

If you ask Providence they will tell you they are need blind for admissions, as are a lot - but not all - schools. However, they do not meet full demonstrated need. So they could admit you but offer less aid than needed to make it possible to attend.
