Not sure I’d eliminate a school from consideration because my chances of suffering from a violent crime there happened to be 4/10ths of a percent vs. 3/10ths of a percent elsewhere.

I agree with that. And, thanks for the double count catch.

Edited to add: What do the DOE numbers use for the denominator (students…undergrads, grads, all campuses including global, etc.)?
