Provost Lee's response to the protest outside her house

Murder and rape are pretty common in many American cities as well, fyi. In Hyde Park, including near the university, robberies/muggings are one of the most common of violent crimes so they really should be included in your assessment. And they happen off campus, usually with a weapon shown or implied. Reported rapes are primarily on-campus offenses and a good number are found to happen in conjunction with much drinking and even a disputation of facts. Not trying to dismiss the crime here, but it’s not the same thing as a mugging. Muggings happen where I used to live in the Golden Rectangle, where my kids live now (near 53rd) and many other places around Hyde Park. We know people who have been mugged. Sometimes it’s not even reported if the perp didn’t actually grab anything. So, having lived there myself once, and having kids living there now (three in a couple of weeks once my son returns), that would be my primary worry.

This site is simply incorrect as it lists the UChicago quads as equivalently dangerous to Englewood. It must be pulling data from across Washington Park and applying it to the blocks east of Cottage Grove. It should be shaded similarly to the two sections to the immediate east. Incidentally, those sections are shaded a bit lighter than my kids' section of Hyde Park - and lighter than my brother's area up north around Lincoln Square (with its million dollar rehabbed houses). So go figure. Of course, some may simply not like Chicago or the "demographics" of the area. UChicago isn't for everyone.
