PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

What are my chances? 3.35 gpa 1430 sat applied for summer dus late september go to highschool near penn state university park 2 siblings attend

Does anyone know if it is more competitive to get accepted to the college of engineering than information science technology (IST)? I know there is a cap of students they enroll in COE. How about IST? I know they are totally different schools but computer science is in the same family as IST.

Hey I applied in mid October and was wondering my chances of getting in. I checked that I would go to summer session and applied undecided. These are my stats

I was wondering what my chances are I have a 3.3 Gpa but go to a very hard school in New Jersey and a 29 on my Act plus my mom is a legacy

and I applied to the college of human and health development with an intended major in kinesiology

@shayyy123 My daughter applied to that school (different major). Your ACT looks good. GPA a little low. But, who knows. Tried looking at last years thread and saw all types getting accepted and rejected.

I applied to the Smeal Business School around the middle of October. I was wondering what my chances are to be accepted for the fall session.
SAT: 1830 not super scored. (680 math)
3.9 GPA
Rank 17 out of 159.
In State
White
Male
Put summer session down as the alternate option as well just in case.

Thank you for any responses.

JosephF19, I have been tracking data for three years and have rarely found rejections for scores that are on the blue section of the bubble chart. Like my son, you are on the bottom blue, so it is good that you chose summer start in case they get a very competitive selection pool for your major. It is important that besides the scores that you have challenged yourself with AP and Honors courses. Good luck.

@JosephF19 what is the bubble chart and where do you find it?

@Kasami Congrats! Just so you know, Schreyers decisions don’t come out until Mid March.

Bklyn14 here is the link for the bubble chart: http://educationquicktakes.blogspot.com/2011/02/penn-state-bubble-chart.html

@Datahound thank you so much. that is so helpful.

@datahound Thanks for the link. My daughter is right between a blue and yellow. She has a 4.0gpa and a 1660 SAT/24 ACT. She is not applying for the engineering or business school. So hopefully that will help.

Keep in mind that the last time PSU updated the bubble chart was 2011. Also, keep in mind that comparing GPA’s is so very difficult because of the different grading scales at the high schools - and the different requirements for different major options. But I think the bubble chart gives a great summary of where you stand. My D was SOLIDLY in the yellow and she got in for summer.

I always found the scattergram helpful too - although keep in mind that people enter their own stats. The dates on the top are for the PSU grad year. So the current year is 2020. http://www.collegedata.com/cs/admissions/admissions_tracker_result.jhtml?schoolId=59&classYear=2013

jlhpsu, thanks for the website. It is like a self reported Naviance graph. Too bad it can’t be sorted by Major. My son applied for Engineering so I am tracking COE results and DUS for the past three years based on this thread. It is VERY encouraging to me that ALL COE firmly in the blue section of the bubble chart got in and only 1 had a summer session (Unknown if it was first choice). The COE applicants that were in between a yellow and blue either got in or had summer session: In three years, there were 4 of these cases and 1 was a summer session. I also found that there were 4 COE applicants firmly in the yellow that got accepted, but it seems they met qualifications of being part of a minority group. Obviously, this is very small population that reports on this thread, but it has allowed me to know that my son can get in as his first choice, with the alternate being a Summer Start or DUS Fall.

Guys, I applied for engineering on the 12th of November. Can anyone genuinely tell me when I might get my decision. I’m international btw. Any info would be much appreciated

McKilla, You applied within the 11/30 priority deadline so we all have to wait until 1/31 the latest to get a decision. I plan to call mid January if we did not get my son’s decision just to make sure there is nothing getting in the way of making a decision.

Hey all! Helpful info: I called this morning and they said that they were two weeks behind in putting priority information into the system. So, it’s going to still take about two weeks for any valid information to come out unless you applied before November. This is straight from an admission person as well. This was a concern for me since my status still says verifying

Well hopefully, that will speed up those who had all their info in before November. LOL
