psycho astronaut lady

Tarhunt, I think you and I are telling too much. Everybody thinks we are astronauts…I mean crazy. ;)

I am not suggesting this stuff is smart and as a cautionary tale, my longest two person only gas stop trip was Spokane to Carlsbad, New Mexico. I got a neck spasm in between Ft. Collins and Denver that I thought was going to kill everybody. It spun my head around like I was Linda Blair. My buddy decided he could take it on in. ;)

curmudgeon:

Meant to tell you that I laughed out loud at the image of her wearing them on her head. Funny stuff!

tarhunt, can you explain her hair any other way?

and mini, remind not to go to Mars.

curmudgeon and Tarhunt, even though I don’t have my license yet, I’ll be an honorary member of the “crazy” longdrive crew. ;)

My family drove from Memphis to DC in one night (and through a rainstorm) once – that’s just under 880 miles, according to MapQuest. That was probably the longest, but we’ve been on several longer roadtrips (including a three-week trip to the Grand Canyon and back) and really don’t shy away from driving 500+ miles at a time and only stopping for gas and food. That’s really not unusual to us. To our credit, though, we do use actual bathrooms. :p

She obviously did not grow up with a dad like mine—“we only stop when the gas gauge is below 1/4 and everyone goes to the bathroom whether they ‘have to’ or not–we don’t stop again until we need gas”.

Those before and after pictures were amazing. Just goes to show how deceiving a photograph can be. Either that or the power of good makeup! Definitely a bad hair (and every other kind of) day for Nowak! From what I’ve read, she separated from her husband two weeks before the incident. I don’t really know what to make of the comment that the relationship with Oefelein was somewhere between romantic and professional… Was the whole relationship all in her head, even?

But if she did it all for Oefelein and then somehow found out he was two timing her - maybe that and an underlying psychiatric condition (and it sounds like this to me too) were what triggered her. I shudder to think of what some of the items that were found on her were to be used for.

mini and Tarhunt, I’m going to make you both take a road trip with my mother some time just so you know what other people have to put up with. She lives 120 miles away and we have never made the drive with fewer than two pit stops. (I wonder what diaper size she would wear?)

It is a riveting story considering the rigorous mental health and physical testing one must pass before being put in a NASA space vehicle.
Personally, I see psychosis, and imagine there have been signs and symptoms for a while which will come out. Bipolar mania most likely, but could be other causes. Obsessive compulsive traits can be adaptive in life for many professions, certainly for the one she trained for so many years, beginning with the Naval Academy. I know moral choices are involved but surely this is a break from reality? Thank goodness the other woman was not injured seriously. Very sad for her children as this is going to be really tough, and criminal charges are going to be pending. They may never have the mother they had earlier in life again.

This morning at breakfast, my wife and I were talking about this “Lovesick Astronaut.” I asked my wife, “Honey, you’d drive 1000 miles, wearing a trenchcoat, diaper and wig to mace a romantic rival for me, wouldn’t you??” Without hesitating, she lowered her newspaper, looked over her reading glasses and said “Absolutely,” went back to reading the paper, then added 'but, I would need at least 5 diapers to make it even half way." Gotta love her.

Well it all Depends…

This is such great free advertising for Kimberly Clark!

Lukester, do you always have such great repartee at breakfast? Thanks for the laugh!

Nothing screams “road trip” like a box of Depends.

What next - SUVs with Depends dispensers (modeled after the Pez candy dispenser) conveniently located next to each massive cup holder?

Got my laughs for the day. And, yes, the “bad hair day” pics and the “diaper on the head” made me laugh so hard I almost wet my… well, you get the idea.

Yep, Curm made me laugh when I read that one too!

Do you think her case can be handled fairly or do you think it’s possible she’ll get “Pamper-ed” just because of her celebrity status?!

I haven’t heard so much bathroom humor since my younger son was 6!

Where is the “bad hair” photo? I haven’t seen any news coverage of this.

She just has the frizzies in a couple of photos that I have seen, not really a big deal.
