My son attends Purdue and we’re from the NYC suburbs. He is a minority in professional flight which is their most competitive major. One of the reasons why he chose Purdue was because of its diversity. We visited one of his other acceptances in the Midwest and the demographics were mostly Caucasian. I couldn’t see him there. There is a decent Asian student population and he has a whole mix of friends. His roommate was conservative, devout Christian from rural Indiana and got along well and respected each other and their beliefs. He is involved in several clubs, works a few jobs, and studies. Purdue does a good job communicating with parents and really wants to help your child transition to college life. Purdue is FYE so if you want direct admit, consider the other schools. I recommend doing Purdue for Me. If you can’t, schedule a campus tour and an engineering tour (I think there is one). We did campus and an aviation tour since we couldn’t do Purdue for Me.
