EFC=$5886
i wish it was less though…im greedy

My EFC = 2880 ish.

Apparently I’m poorer than I knew.

right around 30,000

MOMof2sons - I’ve never heard of someone’s Profile coming in lower than their FAFSA. What unusual circumstances cause this to happen???

The profile as well as my son’s ED school considered our high real estate taxes, the high cost of health insurance and other unreimbursed medical expenses. We do not have another child in college or private school so this did not figure in

In addition, we recently refinanced our home and thus have only marginal home equity so essentially the profile is asking us to contribute nothing from our assets…our entire EFC comes from income–that is how it happened

ours is 23,000 and since the FAFSA is determined to make you pay as much as you possibly can if not more we’re pretty grateful. My dad says he was just hoping it’d be under 25, so…yeah. That’s basically around the most my parents would realistically be willing to pay. So if they’re fine with it, I’m fine. Considering they make over 100K together I was expecting/fearing a lot higher. I think (hope!) that if I get into my more selective LACs they’ll give us more than the FAFSA says to because those schools have pretty big endowments. Otherwise, I won’t get anything from UCs probably but we can (kind of) afford them anyway so it won’t be too bad.

Overall, it could’ve been a lot worse. I think a few things factored into it - #1 we have basically no assets except our house which we can’t count anyway I think and #2 we live in an expensive area. Anyway, I hope this all is a good sign.

My EFC is a whopping $670. Anyone lower? Doubt it.

I thought I was the only one with the problem, My EFC last year was 17,000 and when I renewed it, it went down to 6,335. But I come from a single parent home, And my mom is in more debt then imaginable. So for me, My safest bet is asking the nice admission director at one of the privates schools I was accepted, take into consideration my problem. Maybe they’ll help you, maybe they won’t but the worst that can happen is getting a no :-/.

$3,186 is my efc

My EFC is $28,000, which I think is a little high. My dad is a teacher (has only been teaching for 2 years) and my mom only works part time. I think it’s mostly that high because of my parent’s savings, which they have no intention of giving me to pay for college. As my dad said, I have to work my way through school just like he was forced to do.

Stupid FAFSA. x.X

As I’ve said on this thread before, Alchemy, mine is $0. That’s even less than it was the last time we did the paperwork, when it was $4.

Daughter’s efc is $0

Some people think its bad to have a EFC of 0 but its not FIN AID and the school will help you 100% and more. If the school doesnt accept you because your EFC is 0 then oh well, their not worth it f they can’t help you.

13500…

Damn, I want my EFC to be $0…

$40,000
my dad made twice as much this year as usual.

sucks

Mine’s 36k… :(

OP: Ugh… sell the house and buy a smaller house? I just don’t get it. It is always said by the wealthy that, “most people live a lifestyle that they cannot afford.” Being able to make the payments doesnt mean that you can afford a home… It just means that you can make the payments.

“I also don’t like how people on this forum judge parents, who work very hard for every dime they have, to live a comfortable life.”

Don’t assume that earnings and hard work are closely correlated. Lots of people work hard and make below the median income.

Our EFC is $4660
