Putting the dog to sleep tonight...

It does. We’ve cycled through several generations of cats now, and whenever we get a new one, I always think, “There’s an inevitable end to this.” But even knowing that, it’s always so worth it.

This is such a difficult thing. When D1’s dog had to be euthanized, I was with her until her doggy’s last breath. She kept Rocky’s dog tag and attached it to her key chain, where it has remained for the ten years since Rocky died. For the pets through the years we’ve lost, I have found Rainbow Bridge very comforting. I also just noted today on FB that D1 had posted a picture of Rocky and her. It does get easier, but we never forget these companions. Blessings to you and your Izzy.

Thank you all again for your kindness. Sam (the young dog) is a little more mopey today, but still playful if someone plays with him and overall okay.

Still sad, but easier today. When the vet injected her, she let out a big sigh, and looking back now she just seemed so at peace, which she hadn’t been for quite some time. She used to sigh like that a lot, but not recently. Even the vet was petting her, talking to her, etc. the whole time. I am glad she is at rest.
