Qualities of an Exceptional Student

How could you tell? You ask them. They tell you. You hear it through word of mouth. Generally, if you call someone an exceptional student you’re aware of their personality, habits, and activites.

I don’t even know what we’re talking about.

But here’s my parting stance: Exceptional students have a mix of the best of the best. That’s what makes them exceptional. Strong work ethic. Socialable personality. Eager mind. The intelligence to push that eager mind forward. They’re “optimistically realistic”.

@Niquii: I guess I’m not an exceptional student then, by your definition. And I’m okay with that.

As for the “not work well with others” comments… I simply could care less. I do what I want, and I am who I am. Other people are just accessories (except a few).

@logic I find it perfectly fine that you don’t fall into that definition. I don’t fall into my own definition. Just because you’re not exceptional doesn’t mean you aren’t a great student or that you don’t perform well in school.

And the “Doesn’t work well with others.” comment was a sarcastic joke. It gets tossed around my classes. It’s not said to be derogatory. I wasn’t even serious. Feel free to be your rebellious spirited self.

Let’s just stick to the original question. I could have restated things here and there to make the question clearer, but I was looking for more of personality traits and qualities (hence the title of the question) than anything else.

I mean, of course it’s unreal for one person to portray all these traits. Everyone has their own personality and is an individual, as HalcyonHeather stated. I was just curious to see what you all thought about what makes an “exceptional student”. You may interpret this differently, but for me, an exceptional student isn’t the math-spitting robot, it’s the person who balances his or her social life and happiness with school work. Although this person is top-notch in school and puts in a lot of effort, school is just an aspect of his/her life.

Well, to each his own view… And that’s what makes life what it is.- not heavenly…
But I guess at some point we have to agree to disagree sometimes… My definition of “exceptional” isn’t "perfect, or has those qualities or these. Not “selfless or accomplished” either…
Dunno if anyone’ll agree with me, but the word “exceptional” evokes in me a sense of awe… of doing sth although you were viewed like you never would…

For me, being exceptional is all about doing sth, that may be sth someone else would have done easily… but doing it in face of adversities…
An exceptional student in me dictionary is "someone who faced the most adversities. Yet accomplished another “decent” resume…

Considering high school, I’ll just shoot in the dark and say that any high school student is exceptional as long as they don’t drop out or repeat any courses.

They could be the lazy, uncaring-yet-passing type, but by the time they get to college, they could suddnly be doing extremely well in courses and blowing minds left and/or right.

One thing the exceptional high school student and that one jock who is just barely passing classes have in common is that they’re both still high school students.

You can get more technical with that once those two examples make it to college.
