while I do agree with you gadad, one could argue that your whole premise is off because of the fact that good looks are not necessarily random, but that they are hereditary traits. Therefore, the west and south might attract the better looking people in the country (possibly hollywood or that good looking people may like warm weather that allow them to wear less clothing and fully show off their looks…) and therefore the gene pool in the west/south is truly producing more good looking babies…

well, gadad, with due respect, there are some schools in the East that have very attractive women students too. Georgetown and UVA immediately come to my mind. My take on this issue is that these schools known for good looks have been traditionally so, thus attracting more beautiful people even generations later. Even if there is a very smart and attractive girl vying for top colleges, imo, she won’t have much interest in a place like MIT. Rather, given her attractiveness and academic capabilities, she will search for top colleges with very well balanced social life with a lot of Greek scenes and other social outlets available. So, schools like USC, Gtown, UCLA, and Vanderbilt, imho, do attract these groups of women, and thus guys. Well, let’s be honest. If a school is known to have a lot of attractive women, there will be many attractive men also. And, vice versa.

Apparently Cornell is considered to have some of the most attractive men in the country. We have hairy chests too, to brave the Ithaca winters.

This is from an outsider’s perspective:

I have many friends at Cornell and have visited often. There were a plenty of attractive women around campus. There were also a plenty that were not. (All said within the eye of the beholder of course.) The same trend goes for the many other Ivies/T1s I’ve visited; really, you’ll find gorgeous women at any college…you just hafta look!

Note: The above statements exclude MIT, UC Berkeley, John Hopkins, and RPI.

I love how even this question becomes a comparison of rankings and data compiled from controversial methodology. Oh, CC.

Towson University outside Baltimore has the highest concentration of gorgeous women I have ever seen.

Cornell - not so much. It’s true that the Darwinian need to survive weeds out those who find ways to survive on their looks and those who survive on their smarts. The latter often end up at Cornell.

One of the bonuses of Cornell, however, is that every once in a while you stumble upon that rarest of collegiate sightings: the gorgeous, super intelligent, free spirit, down-to-earth woman that is, to me, the ideal woman.

Cornell’s unique culture holds the possibility for this rare woman to thrive in a way that greater and lesser schools often do not. Be aware. She probably will not be in a sorority.

^^amen to that

SOOO
what about Cornell guys?
are they mostly the weird geeky guys or cute nerds
and how about the jocks?

Haha, there are a decent number of cute boys. Personally, though, I think that guys and girls are evenly matched in attractiveness; the general consensus seems to be that Cornell guys are hotter than the girls, but I don’t really think so. You’ll definitely see your fair share of geeky engineers, but there will be jocks and more laid-back guys wherever you go. Some boys are incredibly cocky and sketchy, but most of the guys I know are down-to-earth and fun. Cornell guys really run all across the spectrum–there’s someone for everybody.

^^second amen to applejacks.

Funny how the types of girls I’d like are probably usually in their rooms studying… like me lol.

^^and that’s why you never find us!! :-P

i think the girls are really attractive if this is any representation.

Class of 2012 - Cornell University

nali and patlees - Good hypotheses . . . very good. So temperate climates attract better-looking people since they’re not intimidated by wearing fewer clothes, and the reputation of a concentration of good looks in any setting attracts other good-looking people to court those who are already purported to be attractive. I’m not sure whether it’s accurate, but I didn’t ask for an accurate explanation - just a plausible one - and that sounds plausible enough . . .

^^^^
Oh - I think that’s pretty much true. I don’t think Milwaukee’s throwing down with LA anytime soon for hottest women in America. Notable exceptions aside, of course.

“She probably will not be in a sorority.”

Applejack, please don’t make statements like that. Being in a sorority does not define a girl. Yea sure, there are a lot of b*itchy, conceited, downright nasty girls in sororities, but that does not mean that there aren’t “gorgeous, super intelligent, free spirit, down-to-earth women” in sororities as well. I joined a sorority my sophomore year and it was one of the best choices I made at Cornell. I would have never thought in a million years that I would be a sorority girl. But, I met what are now my best friends- gorgeous, smart, caring, dedicated to their work, and extremely down-to-earth. A bunch of the other girls in my sorority, well, I tend to just ignore them. In my opinion, you are just as likely to find this “ideal woman” as a member of a sorority than as a non-member.

Well, we’re all entitled to our opinions. I guess I never met those types of sorority sisters. The ones I knew mostly dressed alike, talked alike, thought alike, drove the same Jeep Grand Cherokees their dads bought them, and are all wildly successful in their various intelligent professions. There’s just something extra special about the type of woman I’m talking about.

I know there are exceptions, but I stand by my statement which includes the word “probably”. Stereotypes are a b*tch, ain’t they?

Madison and Ann Arbor on the other hand…

Applejack–

I appreciate you saying that girls are good OUTSIDE of sororities-we tend to hear too much the other way.

two words: Ithaca College

The objectification of women should not be tolerated by college confidential. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS and the entire thread should be removed immediately!

I can’t believe this is even allowed. Just what I want my 16 yr old niece to read.

this is the real world and people are judged on their appearance. get a grip lady, unless you plan on living in your daughters dorm next year, maybe you should let her have a dose of reality.
