Questbridge Scholarship - 2008

ME too! I feel like i should just stop trying for Stanford.

And Columbia is too close to home to intetrest me. I know the campus in and out. I also take classes at Columbia Med School so it makes Columbia all the more familiar.

Does anyone know the pendulum formula?

If you’d like to know:

Call me: Lee
Female, Asian, First-generation immigrant
I speak three languages and my family lives on $1,800/yr in government sanctions–no lie.

Colleges Ranked: Stanford, Yale, Columbia

GPA: 4.00 (Unweighted), 4.514 (Weighted)
Class Rank: 1/437
SAT Reasoning: 1440/2180; SAT II: Math Level 2 750, Chemistry 750
AP Scores: English Language 5, Spanish Language 5, Chemistry 4, US History 4

Senior Year Classes:
AP Biology, AP Economics/Government, AP Literature, AP European History, AP Environmental Science, Honors Psychology (I expect a 5.0)

And I do a whirlwind of extracurrics’ from president of Key Club, to captain of my nerdy AcaDec Team. I have loads of leadership and honors and medals. I did a summer research at the University of the Pacific Vascular Biology Lab and co-authored a paper through the American Chemical Society. And my best part of my high school years is the 300+ hours of community service. =)

My essays were crap, though. Topics include 1) French bread (no lie), 2) numerical prowess, and 3) dealing with my brother’s homosexuality. I’m brushing them up for Stanford, though. That’s were I really would like to go <3

Good luck to everyone going through this admissions. Just be yourself!

Okay, guys. My dad doesn’t believe me when i tell him that if i get ito Chicago it’s binding. He keeps saying that after i get in, I can just be like, I don’t want to go there, so i can just withdraw my application in order to go somewhere else. Can someone show me a website that says explicitly that I am required to go there. He doesn’t really care for the word binding, saying it’s only binding if i decide to accept after i get in. I tell him that I basically have decided to accept from now but he doesn’t believe me.

Help me tell him, so i don’t screw over my college selections.

tell him to look up the definition of binding.

i need more than that…

I have a question about essays. I think my biographical essay, 800 words is the best I have and I want to use it as the Common app one. Should I do that even though the suggested limit is 500?

From: http://www.questbridge.org/students/faqs.html#s1q1</a></p>

What does the “binding” part of the National College Match mean?

“Binding” means that if you are admitted to a college through the National College Match, you are required to attend the school (with the exception of Notre Dame, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale, which are not binding). You are required to withdraw your applications to other colleges. The college you match with is required to give you a full, four-year scholarship. The Regular Admission process via QuestBridge’s application forwarding service is not binding and does not guarantee full scholarships, although students who are accepted do receive excellent financial aid.

but Sheed30, I think it is true that Questbridge can’t FORCE you to go anywhere. it would just be a very long and drawn out process if you choose to not go to Uchicago if you are matched to it.

hi all,

did anyone rank any other colleges except princeton, yale, stanford, swarthmore, uchicago, amherst, and notre dame. because as i read through all of your posts, these are the only colleges i see.

earlier in the thread i saw Wheaton, Wellesley, Williams, and alot of the others as well.

and thank you 2 blue… that really helps.

skreeger i’m from georgia too, northview high school.

 1. Princeton
 2. Yale
 3. Stanford
 4. Emory

The only school I think I have a chance at is emory, but since its free to apply to the other ones, well, why not?

I’m gonna die this weekend…I have to finish my essays, finish the css profile, get everything in order, prep for the SAT’s next sat.; and on top of that, i have to finish 300 pgs. of crime and punishment by monday, as well as study for three tests on wed. The thrills of senior year…hopefully it gets better after application time.

I’m a finalist!

I’m a white male, both parents with college degrees, so I’m not the typical applicant. But we make around 35k, my parents run a not-for-profit out of our house, and I’ve been homeschooled my whole life. (See earlier in the thread for a longer version.)

Test scores

SAT: 1520/2300
ACT: 35
SAT Lit: 800
SAT US History: 770
SAT Math 2: 740

My essays were about:

1) Homeschooling and my life
2) The sociological/psychological concept of ingroups and outgroups, and how it relates to my conservative friends and the immigration debate
3) My 9th grade math teacher

I ranked:

1) UChicago
2) Swarthmore
3) Stanford
4) Oberlin
5) Vassar
6) Columbia
7) Amherst
8) Emory

I’ll probably have to drop the Stanford and Columbia apps though, since I won’t be ready in time.

ok I have a question, it’s kinda of weird but would really really appreciate responses:

My dad moved out to Chicago while my mom and I are staying in California. Would my parents be considered separated? they are legally married but what is when people are legally separated?? When I enter household stuff I have to do two separate ones though because my dad’s is compeletely different. So want should I put on financial aid forms? married or separated?

thanks!

Question: What are the official transcript that we are supposed to send in to the schools? Is that the secondary report of the common app?

i had the same exact question! I wrote married since the parent who is not living with you has to prove himself or herself as a non-custodial parent through a legal process or something like that. It sounded more complicated than to just write down “married”. Besides, the colleges ask for both of your parent’s income info. anyways.

Okay, so my teacher recs and counselor rec have already been mailed, but I marked on the mailing label “early action.” Does that matter or should it have been marked regular decision since Stanford wants the common app to be marked as regular decision if you’re a finalist?

Question: What are the official transcript that we are supposed to send in to the schools? Is that the secondary report of the common app?

You go ask your counselor for an official transcript to send to colleges and they’ll just give you your transcript an a sealed envelope or something.

venusinfurs: I think it was supposed to be regular decision.

Foolish Question: What size should the envelopes be? ^_^
